I'm thinking of getting an xbox again. I owned one about 2 years ago (has it really been that long? wow) but it broke and since microsoft wanted to make me pay 100 bucks to repair it because it was outside the two-year warranty period, I got pissed, sold all my games and got a ps3 instead. Now I'm wondering if it's worth getting a second console, because it's a lot of money for something that doesn't really do much my ps3 doesn't (which does everything, if the commercials are to be believed (hasn't gotten me laid yet though, maybe I should sue sony)

Well, let's think: what sort of gain (in games) do you get if you buy a 360?

Games wise, you aren't getting much. There is Gears of War, which isn't superb; Fable 2 and 3, which are both inferior to Fable The Lost Chapters for PC and Xbox (2001 Xbox, mind you); and the Halo series, which has one notable 360 entry (Reach); you also get Kinect, I guess.

If you have a PS3, I'd leave it at that. It has exclusives that are considerably better in quality.

If you have a PC, then you don't need an Xbox unless you absolutely must have fable/halo/gears of war. Most games that are for xbox but not ps3 are on the PC.

Having both a 360 and a PS3 is pretty awesome. I get any game I want for whichever console i want if it is on both. Usually the one which runs better or has more content or is cheaper.

The advantage is now you also have a DVD player and not just a Blueray. You never know what exclusive might pop up you want to grab too.

Did I mention that owning 2 systems doubles your chances of getting laid.

Assuming that it is in fact true that the PS3 hasn't gotten you any that is.

It's not worth it to get another 360. The money you spent on it already are sunk costs, leave it at that and move on. PS3 + PC covers almost every game out there, and almost any game that's on PC and 360 looks much better on any gaming PC you can get now.

The PS3 plays DVDs as well.

If you want to buy another console just look at the exclusives for the 360 and Wii. If you like the 360's exclusives better, get a 360; if you like the Wii's exclusives better, get a Wii. It's as simple as that. I got a PS3 for MGS4 and the next Team ICO game (The Last Guardian, which was not announce at the time). The only 360 only games I want are Tales of Vesperia and Mass Effect (which just came to PS3). Sony just destroys Microsoft with quality first party games IMO. Personally, I think a PS3 or 360 + Wii is the best combination, you get to play the Nintendo games and pretty much everything else.

My only problem with the PS3 is that it has issues with frame drops and tearing in several multiplatform games (PC/360/PS3). I've been playing the Assassin's Creed games lately, and the framerate drops are really bothering me. The 360 usually have less issues, because it's much easier to port a game from PC to 360 than to PS3.

This is much less of an issue with PS3 exclusive games (see for example Gran Turismo 5).

So I guess what I'm saying is that, if I had the money, I would buy a 360 just to buy multiplatform games for that console instead of the PS3. I already have a Wii btw, and a crappy laptop not suitable for any new-ish games.

Well, how many games are out there that you would buy for the 360 that you can't get on the PS3 or would prefer on the 360? If it's a sizable amount then I'd say go for it.

3 years ago I would've said buy a 360, but these days there isn't really anything not also coming out on the PS3 if you already have one.

The only reason I can think of to buy one again is XBL, if online play is hugely important to you.

well I definitely don't have a gaming pc. it can run civ V at lowest settings, but not with the huge earth map, that makes it crash after every few turns. there's not a lot of exclusives on the 360 that I really want. maybe reach, and I guess gears 3 would be cool. most of my gamer friends have 360's though, so if I'm going to play with them i'll need one too.

If your friends have a 360, I'd get one of those. It does have great exclusives, certain multiplatform games are better on it (Bayonetta, The Orange Box, etc.), and playing online with people you actually know is a lot better than playing people you don't. XBL is great and if you have a job the subscription price is nothing.

There are very few games that the PS3 has screen tearing problems with that aren't on PC, so it makes more sense to spend the money on a PC than on a 360.

I would maybe look into a portable (DS, 3DS, PSP..) or maybe even get a Wii if you want another console and not a PC.

PC will run you 800+ tho, and you can get a hell of alot for less than that in terms of a console/portable and games. I need a PC update, but just dont see a reason yet to do it since pretty much anything on PC is also on consoles too.

True, although a PC costs much more than a 360. You probably could get a used previous gen 360 very cheap from eBay, or perhaps GameStop.

Not true.

You don't want a used previous gen 360 - it WILL break on you. Even the new ones are unreliable.

Since it destroys discs, you need the 250GB model, so $300 for the console, $80 for the 3 year extended warranty, $60/year for Gold @ 4 years (because it'll last a bit longer than the 3 years for the warranty) - you're looking at over $600 for 4 years of using the 360, maybe a bit less if you get a good deal on Gold, or significantly less if you stick with Silver, but still it's quite expensive. You can get a Quad-Core gaming PC with DirectX 11 for $500 these days. It's a bit more of a cost up front, but the cost of upgrading it every couple years in the long run is less than paying for the privilege of playing online.

Maybe it's time to consider giving PC a go.

It's a whole new level of game immersion.

True friend will invite you over for split-screen on Reach + Gears.

haha, yes, but the one who would doesn't have reach. He comes over to shoot zombies in blops though. that's fun, but it's annoying to have to play splitscreen all the time. also... lanparties! but you can do that with pc's too...

are you sure? I thought good gaming pc's were like ?1500... and I don't have the expertise to mod it myself. can get a mate to do it for me I guess, but it's still kindof a hassle. and expensive.
