I mainly play on the PC but since Dark Souls 2 wont be coming out on PC for some time now i was think of buying for the PS3 for now, then get it on PC when it eventually comes out. Has anyone else run into this sort of problem?

or better yet has anyone bought games on multiple platforms (pc, mac, xbox, play station...etc) for various reasons?

Many times over the years.

I think the first game I owned on multiple platforms was Sonic 3 & Knuckles. We owned all of the Genesis games, but I also purchased a collection for the PC which allowed you to play Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, or both connected.

That's likely also the game I've repurchased the most often, when collections are taken into consideration. I owned the collection for the Gamecube as well, and recently repurchased it for the PC on Steam.

Aside from that, other games I've bought multiple times for different platforms include Devil May Cry 3 (PS2 and PC), Devil May Cry 4 (physical PC copy, PS3, and Steam), Sonic Generations (PS3 and PC), Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 (PS3 and PC), Crysis 2 (PS3 and PC), Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (PS3 and PC), Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (Gamecube, Xbox, PC), Fable (Xbox and PC), Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City (PS3 and PC), Bioshock and Bioshock 2 (PS3 and PC), Sonic Adventure DX and Adventure 2 Battle (Gamecube and PC)...

You might notice a recurring theme. And Steam sales are truly a godsend.

EDIT: I have repurchased games not on the PC simply for some convenience or because I wanted to support them, though. I have Final Fantasy VII and IX on my Vita despite still having two copies of the Playstation versions rolling around, and bought ICO & Shadow of the Colossus HD and Okami HD on the PS3 simply because it'd be frustrating to set up and play my PS2 on my HD TV when my PS3 and Xbox 360 are finally working fine together.

I own Oblivion and Skyrim on both PS3 and PC. I use PS3 for stability and as a sure fire way for the game to work. I use PC for modding purposes and dicking around.

I own Oblivion on the PC and the Xbox 360. The PC version is better for spellcasting, mods/commands and so on, but my Xbox 360 has the Shivering Isles, the controls feel easier to use and I find playing melee classes more enjoyable.

Yup. Had the Orange Box, both on PS3 and PC. I also have Final Fantasy IV on PSP (Complete Collection) and Final Fantasy IV DS, along with the GBA version. I really don't own too many duplicates of games on different platforms unless it's a re-release of some sort. Plenty of HD collections kicking around in my PS3 library despite owning them on PS2, etc. Halo CE anniversary also counts, I suppose.

Nothing really wrong with buying it twice. You'll probably be able to buy the PC version for 75% off in a Steam sale if you wait a little, so you won't spend that much more and it will hopefully be the better version.

And lets hope the PC is actually the best version, or at least has decent mouse handling and supports high resolution and framerates like it should.

In large part, the games I won on multiple platforms is divided into two categories.

Games I bought on the PS3, didn't find much interest in, and then later bought on a Steam sale
Some examples include Deus Ex Human Revolution, Max Payne 3, Portal 2 and Red Faction: Guerilla.
Deus Ex HR I have started playing on the PC now, Portal 2 I did a lot of co-op with someone, and the other two I haven't touched on PS3, or Steam. (Yet.)

And then...
Games I bought on PS3, but were cheap enough in a Steam sale I decided to get them on there anyway (and sometimes gave a second play-through to)
These include stuff like Batman: Arkham City, Bioshock Infinite, Castle Crashers (though both were digital copies) and Final Fantasy VII (again, both digital copies, really regret the Steam purchase).

Also, there's some other examples that I'm too lazy to stick into the two categories. There was Demon's Souls, which I got sent to me by an American friend a long time ago when I was dirt-poor, but since it was an NTSC copy, it was black and white on my old TV. Now, I got Dark Souls on Steam, which I guess is the sequel/expansion pack/re-packaging/whatever (don't kill me, fans of the game, I haven't really indulged much in either).
Batman: Arkham Asylum, which I used to have on an old PS3 when I was living with other people, now I have it on Steam.
Then Bully: Scholarship Edition that I used to have on my old Xbox 360, played through and absolutely LOVED. Got it off a Steam sale just 'cause I liked it and thought it'd be nice to have it in my games list.
Also, Dead Space 3, which I first bought for the PS3, to play online co-op with a friend. Sadly, it had connection problems, with the NAT Type being strict, and I couldn't fix them. Then, later, it was in a Humble Bundle and I got it on Origin. Same connection problems, never did get around to playing more than, like...half an hour to an hour into it.
And then, Mirror's Edge. Completed it a long time ago on the PS3, re-bought it on Steam, played through it again with someone, though.
Also, Bastion. Android and Steam.

Okay, I think I'm done with my needlessly long reply.
