I seem to be the only person who knew it wasn't going to pass.
I knew it would not.... because Obama said he would veto it..... How did everyone forget this?
- Rejecting NDAA
- Closing Guantanamo
- Legalising Marijuana
- Raising minimum wage
- Pulling troops out of oversea occupations

These are just a few of Obamas "promises".

of those i believe three of them he ahd no right to make in the first place. the overseas thing..thats not completely his decison, same with minimum wage, and marijuana.. he should not have promised that which he had no absolute authority on. the other 2 i have no idea about though. I am not defending him since he is at fault for making the promise and not following through but he had no right to make those promises anyways. i also heard the marijuana thing is going to be in his reelection campaign..whatever i couldnt care less about it.

While this is a great victory, we can't forget to let our voices be heard when it comes to Protect IP (PIPA).

The fancy text is for the special purpose of illustrating that we aren't completely out of the woods yet!

Someone on reddit said the same thing happened to the PATRIOT act.

Look how that turned out.
There's a bit of a difference between "Someone on reddit" and Congress.

Damn, well now its time to wait for the next "internet destroying" act to appear in a couple of years (or maybe months?).
Since PIPA is still in the senate....

While PIPA is still kicking, we can consider the death of SOPA to be a vitory for now. I plan to party tonight.

Obama also said he would close Guantanamo bay. Or veto that one "US is a battlefield" bill. I could carry on like this for ages. Politicians lie. Obama promising he will do something does not mean he will actually do it; in fact, you would be safer betting that he does break his promises.
At least people betting on that lost the bet this time, right?

I'm quite happy that it's gone. Let's hope that "Indefinitely" = "Infinitely".

Shelved isn't killed, though in politics it doesn't get much closer to dead than that. They will "review" it decide whether it has merit or need changing.(read "are they still watching us on this? No? Good lets creep it through just before July 4th") If it really is dead, the cynical buggers will just try to sneak it in a little later down the road under a different name. We must keep an eye on them as you would a rabid animal.

Meanwhile, PIPA is damaging enough. So that's where the sights need to be set next.

SOPA's shelving strikes me as only temporary, and it or something like it will be brought back as soon as people no longer seem to be paying attention. Besides, it looks as though it was meant to be PIPA's meat shield, given that SOPA's been the one everyone's been paying attention to while PIPA's been pushed further along. While a victory is a victory, however minor, we can't assume it's over, especially when PIPA's apparently scheduled for a hearing on the 24th - only about a week away.

Whew! For a second there, I though the world WAS going to end.

Well, there is only one logical thing to do...

ROCK AND ROLL ALL NIGHT! AND PARTY EVERY DAY!

We've won this battle, but not the war. Many more battles loom over the horizon, and we must meet them with even greater vigor. Do not forget this day.

They should still go on with the SOPA strike though, if only to create awareness about PIPA and any future threat to the internet. The war's not over people...

You mean the one that just passed, which took out the ONLY provisions Obama actually complained about before going through with it?

Yes, shock. Obama threatened to veto the NDAA based on issues not including things like designating the US as a battlefield, they removed his concerns, he signed it.

What a twisted, two-faced politician!

Anyway, this is good news. I assume PIPA is shelved as well, then?
Article mentions PIPA.

The war is over, we have have won.

Though we must remain vigilant for the beast's return, for now we can party...

Unfortunately, it seems most of the huge proponents are convinced it's over and the interwebs are safe.
