In my opinion, FFVIII sucks on almost every level. Broken gameplay, unlikeable characters, story that feels like a ten year old wrote it, etc. The graphics and music and the only redeeming qualities that I can think of. Well, at least it's better than the 40 hour coma that was Final Fantasy XII.

Well I think Selphie was saved by the speech bubbles, although Zell got to me sometimes. Actually I don't think the graphics have held up as well as VII, because the sprites were simplistic I think that it gives it a camp, intentional feel whereas VIII looks a little more dated.Zombie Nixon said:

I actually liked the fact that certain key elements in the plot were never explained, the biggest being "Why the hell does Ultimecia want to compress time?"

When you consider that up until that point the game is fairly based in reality, for an rpg at least, but after that it starts getting weird.
little red lions, buildings that can suddenly fly, the way Squall becomes the leader even though he's a new SeeD, he gets his dream girl even though she loved Seifer, Seifer goes from being a rival to being Mr. big bad evil. Time Travel. Huge futuristic cities. Meeting Laguna (a guy he dreamt of), going into space, monsters falling from the moon. Cid and Edea being married, all his friends and he were at the same orphanage.

Disclaimer: I have never played FFVIII and am not trying to defend of attack it in any way. By the time I post this the war is probably already over, but I still found the need to say this to someone who apparently hates peace and nice people getting along with eachother.
