Someone a few years younger than me in high school was an extra in the movie. He was one of the kids in the class with River at the beginning. You see him a few times when they are talking about Reavers I believe. When I found out I was like OSHIT.

Aye, though he kind of dropped the ball with Dollhouse IMO. I wanted to enjoy it, but it was just too bizarre for me to enjoy.
Dollhouse suffered heavily from corporate influence early on. Joss wanted to jump more into the plot right away, but they made him to "the daily missions of Echo" at the start. Those weren't very good, so when the actual plot got going, which was pretty damn good, the show didn't have enough viewers. The second season started similar, but because it wasn't going to last another Joss got it into high gear quicker, and season two was DAMN GOOD.

I watched this film on the telley a few years ago (And I still barely know what "Firefly" is) and being the outsider I was I found it to be...alright, the setting was something new and it was...somewhat entertaining but there were quite a few nitpicks.

-Why are we meant to sympathize with a psychotic, anti-social psychic girl played by the worlds worst actress

-Why do some of the characters randomly start speaking Chinese (Don't quote me on that)

-Why does nobody act normal in the slightest

-The plot felt half-assed and sloppy (A psychic girl, some git [Played by the same actor who shall portray the main protagonist in the upcoming "The suffering" film might I add] who thinks that making planets have an incredibly bullshit gas that makes 49.9% of the population go nuts, 49.9% go dead and the rest go psychotically awkward, some galavanting space crew)

Mind you I have quoted "I am a leaf on the wind, no force can stop me" quite a few times so it scores some more points for that, but I certainly don't think it should be held up as the nest Star Wars or something, I don't even see why it has such huge fan tongue-bathing sessions online (And most user reviews I see posted here are anything if not enormous tongue-baths).

But let me clarify, a film based on a pre-existing work of fiction like a book or a tv show should be accessible to the layman, just look at the Star Trek movies or the Marvel superhero films.

haha plead away my good sir! Personally I only thought buffy was hot for the first two seasons, then she got a bit too skinny. That's just me though.

Summer, however, you can imagine being so graceful in the sack your penis would cry.

-whatever the chinese word for "snip" is
Yeah you're right, you can still enjoy the film if you haven't seen the series, but all the stuff you've said goes largely unexplained. If you like I'll run through some of the points, as always I'm more than willing to chew someone's ear off about the franchise to force them to appreciate it lol

- River was turned psychotic when she was experimented on by the alliance

- The chinese thing is because china and america where pretty much the only two civilisations left before space travel became viable, so they kinda melded into one

- because joss whedon wrote them

- the gas thing was actually pumped in during the terraforming of a planet (pax... paxalon hydro-something?) to try and make them more compliant with the alliance, most where so relaxed they just stopped eating and the others had an adverse reaction. The hologram explains this, but it really is "blink and you'll miss it" exposition, you're quite right

it could have been more newcomer friendly, but realistically nobody who missed firefly was going to watch it (as proved by the box office) so joss had a choice between REALLY pleasing the fanbase or try to please everybody... I don't know, personally I think he made the right call. And please please PLEASE enrich your life by watching the TV show, if you're a scifi fan then you owe it to yourself lol

haha good choice sir. But the real question is this: River or Inara? *personally I don't find Zoe to be that attractive, but i'm afraid of saying it out loud in case Lawrence Fishbourne comes to my house and punches my leg off*

Undoubtedly one of the best films I've ever seen. The characters are a good assortment of mismatched personalities and when the film is sprinkles with just the right amount of clever parts, action and humour to make it a masterpiece. A must have for any scifi- film nut or indeed just the bog standard film nut.

Just need to get my hands on firefly (which is apparently better).
