Hi Escapists, today i present to you a 1st world problem.

At Uni, my friends did quite a few Cheese and Wine nights- now, i'm fine with the wine but not cheese, so i decided to come up with my own variant. I don't like cheese but i do like cake, and whilst i don't mind wine i prefer beer, so i am thinking of bringing the two together for a social with my friends back home.

So yeah- Cake and Beer Party- the less bourgeois and more nerdy version than a cheese and wine night- do you think it will work or do you think it's just a silly idea?

Speaking only for myself I'd much rather go to a cake and beer party than a cheese and wine party. I say go for it

Well, you're not the first one with that.

Looks like it can work. Maybe you should get David to perform though, just to be safe...

Hell yeah those two things on they're own are great put them together and you have something amazing.
I would say go for it though Im not sure the cheese and wine type would be able to handle the sheer awesomeness of it.

Why are you overthinking this so much?

Just do shit. You're at uni, you're meant to just do shit.

You know what Bear Grylls did when he was at uni?
Got bored and applied for a job at MI6 every day for about a month. Then he joined the fucking SAS.

It's just a party, have it if you want.

Cake and beer sounds kind of weird, I can't think of a beer I'd want with a cake (although a nice red wine with a rich enough chocolate cake could work.) No, if you're gonna go with beer, you're gonna want a food that goes well with beer. Pizza and wings is the go to, sausage and/or hot dogs is another option, even raw oysters if you live in an area where they aren't considered gourmet[footnote]as a Floridian, I still find that weird. You eat raw oysters in dives and wash them down with hot sauce, horseradish, and cheap beer around here.[/footnote].

Captcha: how about that?

It's sentient.

That sounds pretty cool, but you should try looking up what beers go well with certain flavors. Or just have everyone BYOB drink and eat cake... I really don't see much going wrong with this, beyond the usual "alcohol is involved" problems.

Dammit now I want beer.

And cake...

Let us evaluate the scenario, shall we?
Cake = good.
Beer = great.
Cake + Beer = goodgreat.
Seriously, anyone who would turn that down isn't the kind of person that should be at parties. Go for it.

I think it depends on the cake. You probably don't want a belly full of frosting and beer sloshing around. I'd also go with a heavy cake type as opposed to a fluffy one.
My party of this type would probably be Carrot Cake and a kegger of Magners. God, I'd eat and drink at that party until I passed out.

replace the bear with pot, and you have your self a epic combination.
What if you had a bear which, instead of being covered in fur, was covered in bud.

You could have an awesome pet bear, with an added bonus.

OT: I approve of the idea, although I enjoy some cheese and wine.
