-shrug- Two adults that love each other are with each other... As long they both want to be with each other it all seems cool to me. Sure the younger one might be making a HUGE mistake... but it's her life, and I hope she deals with it.

However, I feel sort of bad for Mr. Hooker's wife and kids... xP

I mean... how old are his kids? (I suppose one is 17...) Did his wife still love him? I think about those things I guess...

The odds are the marriage wasn't that great... but still this sounds icky.

So this has happened, again. Just type in "teacher marries student" in a google search and see what pops up

There should be an investigation to make sure no rules of the teacher's former position were broken and to figure out if statutory rape is applicable but honestly, I think investigating this is pointless. I don't agree with their relationship but people are going to do whatever they want to do. One of the biggest scandals about a teacher in a relationship with a minor ended with the couple getting married after the teacher served her time. They have children and I think they're still together.

Unless foul-play of any sort can be proven, there is really nothing that anyone can do about this. I empathize with the mother and it's very pathetic how the teacher left his family like that, but only the teen can decide if her relationship is the wrong/right thing to do. If years from now when he's in his 60s and she's still making lovey-dovey eyes at him, then so be it. A lot of people may not like it, but so be it.

I have to ask though, would the former teacher be okay with his daughter, who is merely a year younger than the teen he divorced his wife and left his kids for, would he be okay with his daughter being in a relationship similar to his own?

Well, it'll be a learning experience for her. I hope he's not deluded enough to think it's "forever". Pretty sure she is.

But that's why age of consent laws exist. Her life, her decision. Being a suburban central California girl, I don't doubt she'll regret the decision within the next few years. Hopefully they're smart enough to not let her get pregnant before their fun little ride ends.

I don't know about where Monkey lives, but its perfectly legal where you and I live.
In Canada, seriously? =O
Yup. The unrestricted age of consent is 16, as long as you don't have anal sex (seriously, its different), and as long as the older person isn't paying for the sex or is acting "in locum parentus" (teacher, coach, parent, babysitter etc)

When I was in highschool he age was 14, it was only recently raised to 16 by the Conservatives.
Well, I knew the age of consent was 16, but I thought an adult banging someone under 18 (The age of being an adult) was illegal o.o And here I was worrying bout that with my ex once I turned 18 XD Well, ain't that lovely! :3

Michigan has the same misconception. Everyone thinks that it's 16 unless you're 18+, but it's just flat-out 16. Feels good man (20, banging a 17 year old).

I think it's a bit off, most likely because I can't see what a grown man has in-common with a young girl like that. But, she's 18 so she can do whatever she wants. I hope they are just in love or something and he hasn't become her new daddy figure or something haha.

(Also, it's kind of messed up he left his wife and daughter, who is almost the same age, to be with her.)
Yeah.... love.
Im sure hes "in love" with her alright.
bow chika wow wow....

and hasnt totally manipulated things in his favor

chika wow wow...

Its just that sure shes 18 but shes just 18 and hes 41, over the hill. Just a wee bit too far over the hill to take his words of "love" seriously. He sounds like any other high school boy..........which is weird when your supposed to be a grown man and saying this about a girl just turned legal.

But somewhere in his skull this should just scream wrong on some scale, and hes just chosen to ignore it because he wants it obviously and Because she 18(like many have pointed out) nobody can do anything about it. Its just too eerily similar to movies about cults Ive seen. Even if her family life was sheltered there are better ways, hell maybe the teacher took advantage of the fact she was sheltered.

I know a lot of escapists on here are pro free love and get what you can but this is just wrong.

Funny enough, the phrase 'hooker' actually came from the surname. All due to the reputation of <url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_General_Joseph_Hooker>one distinguished individual
Legend, probably false (From the same Wiki page)

There is a popular legend that "hooker" as a slang term for a prostitute is derived from his last name[19] because of parties and a lack of military discipline at his headquarters. Some versions of the legend claim that the band of prostitutes that followed his division were derisively referred to as "General Hooker's Army" or "Hooker's Brigade."[20] However, the term "hooker" was used in print as early as 1845, years before Hooker was a public figure,[21] and is likely derived from the concentration of prostitutes around the shipyards and ferry terminal of the Corlear's Hook area of Manhattan in the early to middle 19th century, who came to be referred to as "hookers".[22] The prevalence of the Hooker legend may have been at least partly responsible for the popularity of the term.[23]

I took advantage of the then age of consent of 14 myself. Older guys rule.

Oh, and I'm not a sir ;)
Indeed we do. Same with younger women. A mates gf gave us shit about it and asked why I don't date someone my own age. My answer was "Because of people like you." Older chicks most of the time already have kids, have given up on life and have a whole bunch of emotional baggage that I don't wanna deal with.
My missus has no bullshit baggage, is looking forward to starting her career and is so damn happy about trying new things that it gets me excited to try shit that I would otherwise ignore.

And good to know. ^_~

Jeez, isn't that a little young? I mean legally? Of course, I can EASILY see the attraction, and I certainly don't judge you for it :3 But... She's 1. Not an adult yet 2. You're 27, mid twenties dude.

That really legally ok where you live? o.o
NZ AoC is 16. So she is considered adult enough to bang who she wants so that is enough for me.
Besides, as I already said, as long as both parties are happy then that is all that matters.

On Topic: Extra bright side. Living with a teacher she is gonna have plenty of opportunities to bone up on her studies.

I don't see any reason to think bad of the situation, their both old enough to make their own decisions, and there is nothing to suggest their relationship is bad in anyway so far.
It just seems like the normal "these people have a massive age difference" complaint just with an extra angle of him being a teacher.

Why is everyone on the girls side? Has a guy never been seduced be a woman way younger than him before? Hell it's mOre likely SHE took advantage of HIM. She has nothing to lose HE does . He has to make many sacrifices to be with her , all she gets is a dissapointed mother . No way in hell this is his fault , he just got infatuated by the girl , who is an adult know and probably realised the best she could do is find a sugar daddy . I feel bad for the old soul , this isn't gonna end well for him nor his bank account.

Also there no right or wrong , you can't force YOUR morals on someone else. It's legal just leave it at that.

I'm not sure about this-
Yes any news about an older person in a relationship with someone far younger is always not good however the sound of this teacher doesn't sound bad compared to the many other teachers in the past. There is no proof that he is a pedo or look up at nasty porn etc as the police did check up on him. So to me he sound like a reasonble and fair guy unless proven otherwise.

The news did say the mother did abuse her which is the solid crime so far (they mention nothing sexual had happend between the two so I'm ok with that well sort of) and she is 18 therefore an adult so she is allow to make her own decisions.

Unless there's evidence that they had sexual relations before she was 18 it's fine.

If you're gonna set a legal age of consent, you gotta respect it.

Older men "take advantage" of younger women all the time and nobody rises as much as an eyebrow.

The only thing that makes this thing tacky is the teacher-stuff.
Sure teachers should not have relationships with their students.
But also arbitrary social rules should not stand in the way of two people's love.

If they love eachother, or if she just has daddy-issues isn't really something we can decide.
