I just got Call of Duty 3 for the the 360. After playing for a few days now I have realized that I just wasted $59.99 on really bad game. I thought I was safe, seeing that I just love Call of Duty 2 and it got ranked in the 80's by Metacritic and Gamerankings, but I have finally got bit by my first bad decision for the 360.
What surprised me right off the bat, was how poorly done the graphics are. Many reviewers talked quite glowingly about the quality of the graphics. While it seems that they applied the latest graphic technology, they did so in a very poor fashion. For instance, when it is raining and cloudy out, all the soldiers glow with a silvery radiance. It seems to me that if you are slogging through France in the mud and rain on a cloudy day, you might look a little dingy. While the lighting looks great when rolling in a tank on a sunny day, it seems utterly unrealistic when when the weather is bad. Some of the explosion animations were just terrible and it appears that the rain falls everywhere except on you in the game. Hmm. i wonder if the soldier is wearing an umbrella hat?. It sure renders some beautiful smoke though. Wow!
I also encountered some bugs and texture issues. At one point I even got stuck in the map on the single player campaign. I had to quit the game and restart from my save point. Very annoying.
Getting online did not do much to improve my attitude regarding the game. Matches were hard to find and i really did not have anymore fun than I do in Call of Duty 2. In fact, I quit playing and went to play some Headquarters in COD2 and had a blast.
This baby is going on eBay. The game just screams poor craftsmanship in all areas. The latest Map pack bug further attests to this fact. I would have settled for Call of Duty 2.1 and I would have been gloriously happy. Instead I got a half-assed attempt to cash in on a popular franchise.
