While CoD4 is a very good game with excellent scripted sequences and solid gameplay, it really isn't anything new. The campaign has no replay value either. What frustrates me is that other games such as Halo 3 aren't getting the praise they deserve.
im sorry did i just hear someone say halo 3 isnt getting the praise it deserves? excuse, i have to go shoot myself as i have now seen everything.

dont get me wrong i do like halo 3, i think its a solid game, but its got more praise given to it than, well anything!

on-topic: i enjoyed COD4, and you have to remember its really the only modern next gen shoter (at least that i know of) that is about realism , rather than nano-suits and mutants (im looking at you farcry and crysis)
Yeah the official reviews for Halo 3 are pretty solid, but if you look at what players think, Halo 3 gets a lot more flak that it should be getting. Look at metacritic. Look at the User 'Reviews.' Most of these reviews are abysmal comments made by people who have never even played Halo 3 before. Many of these comments are uninformed, biased, and stupid. I, myself, cannot express a favorite moment in Halo 3 without having rabid Halo haters, PS3 fanboys, and retards insult me and my sexual orientation just because I enjoy a game.

Also, I wasn't just talking about Halo 3. Many of the other FPS games that came out last year were criticized for the dumbest reasons. One of the dumbest reasons is the notion that sequels have to completely revamp gameplay and mechanics to be dubbed as a true sequel. Halo 2.5? System Shock 2.5? How come no one calls Call of Duty 4-->CoD 2.2?

Btw, you're forgetting GRAW and GRAW 2, Rainbow Six: Vegas, and others...
disregarding halo 3 (that conversation could go downhill very quickly) sorry, my brain wasnt in gear when i wrote that post, and such i forgot GRAW and vegas. thanks for pointing them out.

Cod 4 is nice but has some Great bug's like the no wall one that allow's airstrike's 203's and grenade's that can kill you thorught walls or building's.

The hit box seems a litte odd as well given how me and afair few snipers seem to pop a headshot not only will it not do any damage but if you do damage its counted as a chest hit even when you pop the shot in the center of his face.

Over all its nice but another case of people trying to over hype a good game.

I thought CoD4 was a good game. It was a random purchase of mine as i didn't really like the previous CoD games, but i thought it was really quite good.

To be honest i don't really care about the multiplayer, i have counter-strike for that. =]

I'll answer. CoD1 and CoD2 where both made by IW and are set in WWII on different war fronts. CoD3 was made by Treyarch who has also be given the rights to CoD5. These two games have/planned to be set in WWII. When Compared to CoD3 its clear that CoD1,CoD2 and CoD4 are of much higer standerds then CoD3.

But in case you have not noticed CoD4 is set in 2011 (the game is set 25 years after chenobyl). IW chose to take it away from the WWII scene (a very good thing in my mind because I hate WWII shooters) and decided that it was time to stop churning out remake after remake of Allies VS Axis and go somewhere new with their only franchise.

I think thats a good thing but If you don't, and would rather have waves of World War 2 shootes stinking up the market then go ahead and be my guest.

Personally, I prefer COD4 as a "single-player" game and when I say "single-player" I mean "I'd rather play this by myself and not with my friends". The combat is gritty and simple turn-aim-kill fun. The one problem is that's all it is really. Deathmatch with few tweaks. There's hardly any interaction between you and your teammates, mainly because the game is quite balanced and everyone can pretty much handle themselves unless they are outnumbered or caught by surprise. You mainly get satisfaction from getting sprees, completing challenges, and unlocking new perks and weapons. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's a really "no-nonsense" kind of game, whereas a Halo 3 match may often be full of tongue-in-cheek moments in which you'd reminisce. (i.e.-"Haha remember the time I tossed down the grav lift when the Warthog was rushing straight at me and stuck it with a plasma grenade in mid-air?")

For now Halo 3 is my "party game"...well at least until I get my Orange Box. I want to play TF2 badly. :(

I think CoD4 is pretty overrated, yes.
For me, overrated means that a game gets better reviews than it deserves.

Yes, CoD4 is shiny. Yes, the cutscenes are well done. But for me, that's about it. The AI isn't great, the team-mates sometimes annoyed the hell out of me. Sometimes the enemy spawning was so blatantly in my face that I just didn't believe I was playing a modern FPS that was praised for its realism and atmosphere. The deadliest enemies in the game for me were those annoying dogs.

Overall, CoD4 was a mediocre FPS for me. Nothing even remotely innovative, the AI is on-par at best and the sometimes blatant spawning counts double, because the game tries so hard to be "realistic" and build a good atmosphere and the spawning is a really jarring contrast to that.

All there was to CoD4 was a good presentation. That simply doesn't justify review scores above 90% for me and the only conclusion left is that the game is overrated, in my opinion.
