think it would be good? If it had every weapon from every game, even the wwII ones?

No, I honestly don't think it would work.
Odds are that if it went F2P you'd end up getting like 2 guns from each category as free, and the rest would be charged and unfortunately every gun isn't equal to each other so it would end up being a case of pay to win.

Well, if they made it a microtransaction thing, where people paid money for harmless aesthetic benefits, I'm sure it would work. However, that would put a bit of a dent in Activision's wonderful gravy train...

With the amount they overcharge you for maps when you still have to buy the game means if the base was free the cost of anything would fucking insane. You'd end up spending way more for everything in the game than you would be paying now. I'll blindly and hypothetically estimate about thrice the price.

There is no way it wouldn't become a pay to win affair as well.

This would be the problem they'd have to overcome for it to work for me, I don't want a free pistol and have to pay £49.99 for my favourite AK-47.

I've never played CoD so I don't know what to think. I do know I still wouldn't play even if it were F2P, though.

Well, Battlefield did this a little while ago, how did that go?

I had heard it didn't go well but I never actually tried it, so take that with a grain of salt.

I think it would be the business model that makes the most sense with the way the series has been going, and from Activision's point of view, is a potential huge money pot that they have yet to take advantage of. From a player's point of view, however, I'm not sure I can trust Activision to put out an F2P game that doesn't turn into pay-to-win. Still, it's definitely an interesting idea.
