Controversy

When I first heard of the game I got excited because it is the sequel to the game that changed the FPS genre. I followed the game to its release and went at midnight to purchase the game along with the millions of other people that got it that night. I went home and I beat the campaign that morning. The short but yet explosive campaign and left me on a high so I laid off the game the rest of the day. The next day I play live and notice that the maps are nothing like they were in four and camper friendly. While this was a turndown, everything else made it seem ok. The killstreak rewards were a nice addition (along with deathstreak perks) and the new guns and perks were to be expected. During that week I was on a high, the game to me was amazing and I could not believe how put together it was. Then as I went online, I read forums saying how overated/overhyped this game was and I didnt see it. Sure the campaign was short, but we knew that from before didnt we? The multiplayer didnt change the game like the first Modern Warfare did, but there were still enough changes to make it fresh.
I still think this game is amazing, other games that came out this year were amazing also but in my head this was GOTY 09, and I still don?t see why people bash this game. The game was more of the best, so whats wrong with that? Then when websites started to show GOTY awards this year I thought to myself that thisll show all the haters that it is the best. But Gamespot gave it to the quietest game of the year ?Demons Souls?, Spike TV gave it to Uncharted 2 and the jury is still out at IGN, but knowing them it?s going to Assassins Creed 2 or Uncharted 2.
Ive been gaming since I was child and I was able to tell how games would turn out, but for this one Im baffled. Maybe Im just not seeing it or Im just in denial, but can someone tell me why everyone is hating on it? I mean there is defiantly better games out there (not by that much in my opinion) but it deserves more credit than people are giving it.

Paragraphs are your friend.

People hate it for several things:

It screwed PC-gaming over.

The multiplayer's unbalanced

The story is not only short, but far-fetched and relies way to much on chocking scenes.

Those are some of the reasons.

I, while thinking the game is still good, wouldn't give it GotY. Uncharted 2 was much more polished than possibly any game ever made, and AC2 and Borderlands where awesome and fresh. MW2 was just MW, only dumber and flashier.

EDIT: OP, did you join just to make this thread? Are you really that desperate for answers?

This will only end well.
But anyway, if you want to know why many people hate it, try the PC crowd. They got a very short end of the stick from what I heard.
A very short end of a stick.

Daaah, wall of death text!

OT: I think the reason is that they've all experienced it before. It's a great game, but it doesn't jump many steps away from COD4, which made a huge leap in the FPS genre, as far as good games go. So people are comparing it to it's predecessor, I guess.

Also, people still weep over dedicated servers.

The multiplayer is also glitched as hell, well at least it is on the 360 version. 9v9 domination on rust with no score limit or timer, and with infinite ammo, something's not right there.

Ah yes, that too. The leaderboard hacking.

I find that the douchebag and arrogant gamers are ten times worse on CoD4 or MW2.

The multiplayer is really unbalanced and they need to have alternative perks not OP perks.

Battlefield 2 had sidegrades not upgrades, same with TF2. Both are excellent games.

The short but yet explosive campaign
You dont need both 'but' and 'yet'. Either would be fine, but both make the sentence read wrong.
MW2 is just CoD 4 with upgrades and a less compelling and shorter campaign. Its not awful, but the multiplayer saves it in all honesty.
And this is hardly a controversy. If you had discovered a anti-sematic subcontext then maybe, but this is just people not liking the game.

MW2 has done a fair bit for the FPS genre, .
Not really. It did a lot for one company. Its not done too much for the genre as a whole. It hasnt been very revolutionary or anything.

I disagree. Burst fire takes more skill, you cannot just spray and pray. I think they are less 'noobish' than most full auto guns.

1. Pissed off PC gamers.
2. Deathstreaks are a bad thing, reward you for sucking ?
3. Killstreaks are also a bad thing, they encourage camping.
4. OP weapons, like shotguns (Model 1887 -_-) and P90.
5. Less health = more camping.
6. Maps have too many random alleys and corners to hide in.
7. Too much elevation, encourages camping and prevents gunfights.
8. The people, 90% of people on CoD are 12 years old and yell in a high pitch voice or play music through the mic. Mute ? But I like meeting new cool people to play with, and if everyone is a twat there are no cool new people.
9. Abundance of glitches, javelin glitch, private game glitch, 10th prestige glitch, speed hacks, infinite ammo hacks etc.
10. The campaign was far too short, and tried too hard to be shocking and was too far-fetched (come on pulling a knife out your chest ?)
11. Spec ops can only be done with 2 players. -_-

It does have its good points though, most of them are from Cod4, for example, the addictive ranking system, the create a class system, the solid frame rate and the smooth controls.

I'm sorry... but how did CoD4 change the genre?
It turned it into a generic repetitive dull genre, that's how. Mainly due to it's sheer simplicity, even the ASBO level of idiots can pick up and play it and it gives their simple brains entertainment, I'm not saying you need to be stupid to play it but there are plenty of games that actually make you think a bit and have perfect balance, like TF2, Halo or the gentleman's favorite, chess.

Oh, and the point in putting the age rating up was for what? to add strawberry/raspberry (whichever you prefer) jelly to the screen? pretty much all the people you meet in the good game modes with the forced in game chat are 12 with their un broken and ear splitting voices and tantrums, I have used the mute button more in the previous 2 months than ever before, I thought the whole point of having online gaming was to have a good time with new people? to carry on from that point the people who aren't 12 year olds are usually loud mouthed vulgar ASBO chavs who rage and flame at you for simply being better than them. Did they really think some aspects of the game through at all?

However the story isn't bad it was one of the story modes I haven't felt "OK, so whens the good bit coming?" as a part I appreciated...

Captain Price's use of the electro magnetic radiation off the nuke by detonating it in the upper atmosphere told me they had actually thought about it a bit and not just a single player supplement to their mind numbing multiplayer.

Sorry to burst your bubble but M16 and Famas are what is ruining the game. Everyone camps with them. It takes more skill to hit more bullets whilst moving your aim than to aim at one spot, press the trigger once and get a kill in 3 bullets. I like guns having recoil, it makes them hard to use, have you seen how steady an M16 is ?

Pre-firing = spray the spawn at the start of the round/game. Most likely gun being used = Famas or M16, burst fire taking more skill is a myth and it is ruining compettitive gaming so much atm.

Hah! No.

COD4.5 was fun until all of its gimmicks wore off, and when they do wear off you're left with COD4, which I grew bored of fucking ages ago. I want to trade it in, but there's nothing I wanna trade it in for..

Wow... will you be my friend? You're exactly right! Talk about hitting the nail on the head. MW2-multiplayer fucked PC-gaming so hard the asshole is starting to look like a black hole. On top of that it's just rediculously unbalanced and the delay when you shoot someone, the dodgy hit detection, the aggresive amount of cheaters just makes it a big "wtf".

The sad part is, IW doesn't give a flying shit. They have their money, fuck the loyal gamers who bought their game as soon as it was released it seems they say. I'm just appaled. I didn't think that IW would sink this low... I mean, they made CoD fucking 4! It sits on my top 5 list as favorite games! And the other CoD games were amazing aswell. I believed in them... Money does terrible things too you I guess

I'm frustrated and sad. But what do they care
Meh, it's like I always say: IW aren't evil bastards, they're just stupid.

Oh, and of course I can be your friend. I'm everybody's friend.
