Actually, thinking about it you are right. The lack of recoil and accuracy may actually make them a bit too easy to use. I concede the issue lol.

Think of the series like a cake. The bottom layer is the staple Call of Duty gameplay. The second layer is the enthralling story and addictive multiplayer of CoD4. The icing is Mw2. Unfortunately the icing contains too many lemons, and sours the whole experience.

CoD4 was awesome. I've played through that campaign so many times due to the sheer entertainment value. With MW2, it really has been:

1. Play Normal.
2. Play Hardcore.
3. Play Veteran.
4. Get Intel.
5. Reach level 70.

And now I'm bored. The only thing that kept me playing the single player (After the first playthrough) was the steam achievements, and the only thing that kept me playing the multiplayer was the constant nudge of having just a few more points to get.

Now that that constant nudge has faded, I can see the multiplayer for what it is. Unbalanced, glitchy, in some ways ill-conceived and horribly frustrating for far too much of the time.

Unbalanced

Wait, you've ALL got SCARs, FAMASs, and M16s? Something's up here.

Glitchy

I don't really need to explain this.

Ill-conceived.

The killstreak system they have going is terrible. Let's give those who are already doing really well the ability to do even better and further dominate the enemy team, ruining the game for them. It's fun for the person who gets it, but terrible for everyone else. Don't even get me started on the nuke.

I think the Death streaks are OK for the most part. Perhaps increase the number of deaths needed.

The Maps.

Frustrating

Now, I'm not bad at this game, not bad at all. But my god. When I open up the .exe, I plan ahead because I know I will ragequit. That's a rare thing for me, but somehow this game does it.

It's not just me, either, countless cries of "WHAT THE FUCK" and "Oh, COME ON" can be heard from my PC whenever any of my friends plays this game, too.

There are so many little problems that just all add up to make the multiplayer positively painful.

IW are a good game developer, they have been poisoned by Activision's money grabbing bastard attitude.

Because all the little kiddies that hyped the game, and it being released WAY too early after the first (seriously, take a lesson from Valve with TF2 and CSS)...

The game is NOT game of the year material. For anyone that thinks that the Singleplayer was truly a deep story, you have a lot to learn about games....and I feel deeply sorry for your mislead opinion...

It's a good game, it got too much hype but that was their own fault, they were the ones hyping it up to be awesome. Modern Warfare 2 is a lesson for developers in humility. The bigger the ego, the more problems it would appear.

In addition i find it weird that you came on, posted one thing and then proceeded not to anymore. Now i'm quite unsure about all of this (as another thread shows) but am i right in calling troll on this?

1. Pissed off PC gamers.
2. Deathstreaks are a bad thing, reward you for sucking ?
3. Killstreaks are also a bad thing, they encourage camping.
4. OP weapons, like shotguns (Model 1887 -_-)
5. Less health = more camping.
6. Maps have too many random alleys and corners to hide in.
7. Too much elevation, encourages camping and prevents gunfights.
8. The people, 90% of people on CoD are 12 years old and yell in a high pitch voice or play music through the mic. Mute ? But I like meeting new cool people to play with, and if everyone is a twat there are no cool new people.
9. Abundance of glitches, javelin glitch, private game glitch, 10th prestige glitch, speed hacks, infinite ammo hacks etc.
10. The campaign was far too short, and tried too hard to be shocking and was too far-fetched (come on pulling a knife out your chest ?)
11. Spec ops can only be done with 2 players. -_-

It does have its good points though, most of them are from Cod4, for example, the addictive ranking system, the create a class system, the solid frame rate and the smooth controls.
fixed and i agree.
but i think the maps are trebly theres only 2 good

Will somebody, anybody, explain to me how Call of Duty "revolutionized" the genre?
Is putting out a generic FPS "revolutionary?"

Part of the problem is the fact that you could not and indeed cannot go more than five minutes without hearing about the game. This becomes very bad because not only do people simply get tired of hearing about it, but they may also create such high expectations that no game could hope to reach. The media campaign around the game reaches the same level as that of Vice City or Halo 2, and those are two very over hyped games, still good games, mind you, but hyped beyond belief. You also have to keep in mind that these GOTY, public consensus, and what not are all opinions, if you think a game is GOTY, you're not wrong, thats just what you believe and that's okay.

On a side note, how exactly are COD4 or MW2 considered "revolutionary" ?

MW2 it tried to do too many things at once and failed at all of them.
bugged multilayer, the Story screams Cold war drama written by a Militaristic 10 year old, Piss easy story mode, and the Finisher 10-12 year olds saying F***, N*****, and S*** more than any other words

damn op,
I lost the game 7 times.

ot: I realy enjoyed the single player story, but the multiplayer matchmaking system shits me to tears. Countless times I get forced to host because the original host leaves and in his place they give the hosting to some guy with a shit connection. Game ruined..

Hopefully if the return and make more they will fix this up and go back to dedicated servers.

This will only end well.
But anyway, if you want to know why many people hate it, try the PC crowd. They got a very short end of the stick from what I heard.
A very short end of a stick.
They got a stick? Everyone tells me they got shit.
Basically. This game was released with a new crappy method copy pasted from the console match selection method that was not wanted by PC gamers to begin with. It was touted to have better security and control of cracks and exploits and in fact it does not. Private servers always have and always will be a better system as they are individually monitored by server admins and they have the ability to be micro managed in terms of exploit management, crack security and mod application.

Short story: We got something NONE of us wanted. And it ended up sucking. I played it for a couple of weeks and then got sick of the terrible interface and poor friend system through Steam. Don't play it at all now, and that sucks because it cost me 60 fucking dollars.

Fuck them, I won't be buying it again.

Call of duty 4 did not "Change" the fps genre. It ripped off other games such as rainbow six and first to fight with their touted "Military realism" and it's supposedly god-like multiplayer I found was like playing battlefield 2 with all the sheer epicness taken out. Still was a pretty good game though. Modern warfare 2 was just a standard sequel, still alright...nothing as spectacular as everyone's been saying. Trust me these websites are fair in their judgement.

Paragraphs are your friend.

People hate it for several things:

It screwed PC-gaming over.

The multiplayer's unbalanced

The story is not only short, but far-fetched and relies way to much on chocking scenes.

Those are some of the reasons.

I, while thinking the game is still good, wouldn't give it GotY. Uncharted 2 was much more polished than possibly any game ever made, and AC2 and Borderlands where awesome and fresh. MW2 was just MW, only dumber and flashier.

EDIT: OP, did you join just to make this thread? Are you really that desperate for answers?
my friend, we agree on all the same levels

i greatly prefer the first modern warfare over the 2nd one, but everyone i know plays the 2nd so i jump on casually once a week

the 2nd one was extremely overhyped, even my old ass college professors were talking about it, so obviously the game for being "okay" was gonna get hated on from flamers who wanted to say "i told you so"

overall its not bad at all, but it def. isn't better than the first one and it def. doens't live up to any game of the year awards imo

MW2 has done a fair bit for the FPS genre, .
Not really. It did a lot for one company. Its not done too much for the genre as a whole. It hasnt been very revolutionary or anything.

though the M-16/FAMAS are pieces of noob-tastic crap.
I disagree. Burst fire takes more skill, you cannot just spray and pray. I think they are less 'noobish' than most full auto guns.
Sorry to burst your bubble but M16 and Famas are what is ruining the game. Everyone camps with them. It takes more skill to hit more bullets whilst moving your aim than to aim at one spot, press the trigger once and get a kill in 3 bullets. I like guns having recoil, it makes them hard to use, have you seen how steady an M16 is ?

Pre-firing = spray the spawn at the start of the round/game. Most likely gun being used = Famas or M16, burst fire taking more skill is a myth and it is ruining compettitive gaming so much atm.
what version are you playing?

i see either of those guns maybe 1/50 games...

the only guns i see are the harley riders running around with dual shotties, and intervention/knife ninja combos, the occassional skar or acr too, but i see shotties more than china products in america...

(proud user of acr and wa2000, also a bit on the tar time to time)
