The newest and best game (in my opinion) to the popular call of duty series has one thing any of its four predecessors did not. This one has Blood and Gore. Now personally i think that this addition not only makes the game a lot more fun to play, but it also helps draw me into the fight, when a grenade explodes at someone foot their leg should fly off, which in CoD:WaW, it does.

Now alongside the blood, came the bayonet, all i can say about this is that it is the single best weapon i have ever encountered in an FPS, second only to the Fat Man in Fallout 3. Whats not to enjoy about running through the Japanese trenches hearing nothing but squish sounds as you drive a knife into their spine.

I am interested in other gamers opinions on this new addition to the Call of Duty series.

Do you share my hopes that this will be carried on to the next CoD Games?

Edit: To hot to keep the helmet on, so i made an edit.

Oh, boy. You said World at war was the best in the series. I and many other people will disagree with you on that point.
It's not like the gore really added anything. and the bayonette just replaced the knife for mellee attacks. Hardly a revolution.

Also: Welcome to The Escapist.

Welcome to the escapist. Here's something you should know.

Some people on here are VERY protective about their opinions, and so you just said that COD5 is the greatest in the series.

You're gonna need a crash helmet mate.

SoF 2 has a bayonet style knifey thing on the AK as a secondary attack, it takes too long to use to be useful in multiplayer though, its balanced out by the stopping power of the bit that goes BANG BANG though.

I've not played Call of Duty 5, I played the original and found it sub par, but if the bayonet is an improvement on SoF2's effort then kudos to Treyach.

I never understood why in games with a bayonet it takes ages to stab someone up, in a real world situation you wouldn't need a run up with 5 second animation!, you'd just stab someone up on a whim.

I think the Escapists contingency is rather mature, I mean we get into meaningful discussions regarding the merits of Halo 3 all the time.

oh wait.

Well it adds an atmosphere to it. I see my fellow escapist users have warned you already, oh and don't bring up Halo 3 either.

Tell me I'm dreaming.
Welcome to the escapist, here is your flame retardant suit, your bulletproof vest and your helmet...which still has the remains of the last person who used it...

I see you've given him Eggo's suit, he would like it to go to a good cause.

Because trying to use a bayonet on an enemy after running through a gauntlet of fire and obstacles to reach him is exhausting, your arms are burning with lactic acid from crawling and providing a stable support for firing your weapon.

That's one of few things "realistic" FPS games don't have - fatigue. After 200m of fire and movement (if you're doing it right) your physically fucked all around.
thats an excellent point, I'd be fucked!

man, I suck at real life, the outside world is scary.

Harsh words, but point taken. Games are meant to be fun though don't you think?

World at War was gorey, but the terrible art design ruined any feeling of immersion.

Personally I enjoyed CoD5 a lot (haven't finished the story, but have played a lot of multiplayer)... but somehow I still think its a setback from the 4th one. I mean wasn't the "reliving world war" fps's already overdone by CoD3?

Edit: Kalezian, I really really hate you... Stealing my comment while I posted it T-T

Personally I thought CoD:WAW (Not CoD5, because it's NOT the 5th COD game) was pretty shitty. The multiplayer especially. Most of the guns are the same when it comes down to it. When you've fired one bolt action rifle, you've fired them all. As for the gameplay, I couldn't bring myself to play it enough to reach the highest level, unlike COD4 where I'm 10th Prestige, level 55. I only really play hardcore these days and the hardcore modes in CoD:WAW are plagued by campers, so it's pretty much impossible to do well unless you've got the reactions of a fighter pilot. The thing about hardcore is that it's one-hit kill with most weapons and that there's no killcam. So these campers will sit in hard to see places with automatic weapons with silencers and radar jammed (I forget the name of the perk) and that's where they'll stay for most of the game. It's just not fun. And the addition of vehicles in the multiplayer is such a Treyarch thing to do... They did it with CoD3 and now they've done in with CoD:WAW and it's fucking horrible. So I no longer play this game for those reasons.

As for the blood and gore, it's pretty much pointless in a fast paced battle. You can't really appreciate blowing somebody to pieces because by the time your explosive has gone off, you have a new target to take out. And the bayonet? Most fun attachment ever. It's great looking at your radar to see a guy coming round the corner, so you crouch and wait for him to move past then you plunge your bayonet into his back. So satisfying. I only ever use it with the bolt action rifles, so that I can get more use out of it.

World at War is better than Modern Warfare because because it has Gore? I hope you played and finished Modern Warfare, 'cause it's pretty damn amazing.(The ending was pretty nice, I mean it was the first time I ever felt sorry for the people that died at the end, aka your "squad", so dramatic). Just 'cause something has gore does not mean it automaticly it gets better. Right now, many will agree and some will disagree that Modern Warfare is the best in the series. World at War...it was good, but not has good as Modern Warfare.

And the bayonet? It just replaces the knife.

In Order of my personal preference:
COD4
COD2
COD
COD5 (although I enjoyed the zombie addition)

I refuse to place COD3 because I could only have played it on the wii and I'd rather swallow a land mine, before using myself as a major road.
