The game isn't being made by Infinity Ward. I'm all for it. So far, Treyarch have proven that they can make a good story, as well as a trilogy which doesn't rely on cliffhangers or the need to spread one long-ass story along three games. Instead, they made three awesome stories that were connected. If I jumped into MW3 without playing 1 nd 2, I'd have no idea who these people were. BLOPS trilogy on the other hand, while it does have plenty of references to the previous games, can easily be played and understood by someone who hasn't played the original ones.

I'm also very excited for a future shooter that is shiny and isn't apocalyptic. I'm over that for FPS titles. With the exception of Fallout 3/NV...if you can call them shooters (Since the primary weapons are guns).

didnt they tried the whole "future war" thing already? black ops 2, wasnt ghosts futuristic as well?

it seems they have completely run out of ideas

altough i must say some of the gadgets in the trailer looked cool, and i hate to admit that, unsurprisingly its the kind of stuff that will be used in one section alone and then completely forgotten until the end of the game
Black Ops 2 was a wee bit futuristic. But only by a decade or so. And while Ghosts was also in the future, it was a future where the US went to shit about present day, which is why the tech level doesn't seem as advanced as BLOPS2. Advanced Warfare is set in...I want to say 2054? I can't remember the exact date, but I did read it somewhere. On the internet, so it must be true.

I gave up on the series after Blops 1. I just grew past it sort of. So Im not hyped in any way. I will still probably look at some gameplay since they made the trailer so fancy.

Also, did anyone else think the armor some soldiers were wearing looked a bit like the Exoskeleton from STALKER?

It's not Treyarch either.

This is Sledgehammer Games first shot at their own Call of Duty game. They helped with Modern Warfare 3 in partnership with Infinity Ward but this is their first full game.

Can we just let that stupid fucking term DIE already? It wasn't funny the first time and has gotten less funny since then.
Seriously. I don't like COD either, but can we please stop implying that there's something wrong with the people who do like it?

Herpderp. Forgot to clarify. I meant Sledgehammer. Also, as far as I'm aware, they only helped on the multiplayer for MW3. Which could mean anything from gameplay to map making. And since the gameplay in CoD has been pretty consistent since, I'd put my money on map making. Which means nothing since it doesn't take much to make maps based off of single-player campaign locations.

I liked one bit in the trailer. The bit where you jump around on cars punch in there armoured windscreens and throw out the driver. There looks like there will be some cool gadgets but I'm willing to bet big money that they will most likley be used once at a heavily scripted point in the campaign.

I can't see myself bothering.

I'm sure that once the industry will finally stop making so many mediocre (at best) spunkgargleweewee games, the genre will return to being called modern military shooters. Until that day, you'll probably keep seeing that word being used on Internet forums. There are worse things to get upset about, I assure you.

spunglegargleweewee is still an apt term. We all know all of that tech they're showing off in the trailer will inevitably be used once and then forgotten because despite wasting Kevin Spacey on this people will just jump into the multiplayer. I don't even get why CoD bothers with single player campaigns aside from just getting footage for trailers. Though with CoD's sales going down as of late it'll probably be rendered irrelevant in the years to come. It's probably why Activision is pushing Destiny so much.

I'm going to keep an eye on this simply because a new studio is behind it. I don't want to be cynical and jaded and discard the possibility that it might be the next CoD 4. Anything is possible now. I prefer to be cautiously optimistic in all aspects of life.

The fact that the one trailer released so far has more in common (thematically) with Deux Ex 1 than anything I've seen Eidos Montreal do tickles me immensely. It's also ambiguous enough that I'm kinda hoping the protagonists will basically be doing White Man's Burden shenanigans as well. EDIT: Because the fallout from that would be more than a little amusing.

(remember when Call of Duty 2 and 4 were called good games?)
They still are by the people that actually played them. The ones just jumping on the CoD hate bandwagon tend to hate all CoDs equally, because they tend not to have played them and don't know which ones are good. I haven't played CoD2 or 3, but I've played the first one (sans-expansion however), and I've played every CoD from 4 to Black Ops 2, and in my opinion the series lost the plot with Modern Warfare 2. Mechanically, MW2 was an improvement. But the story was nuts. It was like James Bond meets Call of Duty meets ADHD.

Before that the situations in the game felt at least somewhat plausible in concept, if not in the exact details. But MW2 was just... just a bit too silly for me. The multiplayer for Black Ops was the end of CoD for me. Last time my clan was allowed to have a server we could have set as we like and still make progress. Last time we could gain members by building a group of regulars we knew and trusted to help police the server when we weren't active. But no, we have to use the same matchmaking as the consoles, sod community, who needs that in a multiplayer game.

If I see one more use of the word Spunkgargleweewee I will make whomsoever stretches to speak it gargle my spunkwee.
