Haven't completed a single COD game on veteran. COD4's "No fighting in the war room" was too frustrating, COD5's magic fuseless grenades were too unfair, COD6 I simply got rid of the game before I ever bothered to finish it (and the story pissed me right the fuck off), COD7 the incredibly unfair AI and glitches in cover made it too hard. And the russian juggernaut is bullshit.

What's incredibly gratifying is playing through Mile High Club on veteran with the infinite ammo and slow-mo cheats active after you've beaten it properly.

In terms of difficulty, out of the ones I've played MW2 was the easiest on veteran, MW1 was about as hard as I'd expect and WaW was full of frustating bullshit... and I only tried that on hardened. Veteran in MW2 was a good difficulty if you wanted a reasonable challenge but nothing too hard if you played carefully, MW1 made it suitably brutal but WaW was just ridiculous.

While I myself will never play Veteran, since I might as well be a 10-thumbed cripple for how good I am at games, I can understand the appeal in the challange. Some gamers think gaming is too easy now. Challanges like this are probably great for them.

I play hardened, generally because regular is too easy for me, but I hate veteran just because of the way it ups the difficulty. As soon as you come out of cover people will lockon to you, and one bullet will bring you back down into cover. I only ever bothered the slightly stealthy missions on cod4 on veteran

Ive beaten CoD 4-7 on veteran, just because I enjoy a challenge and it helps me with anger after I spray 3 clips into the guy who killed me 10 times before. Also I've done Mile High Club, *best* 3 hours of my life...

I found Veteran incredibly easy on the Modern Warfare games.

CoD3 still has me stuck though.

Cod4 veteran was challenging, Cod 5 had coop (and was thus easy), Cod 6 was easy (Exept for the favela, and the explosives only vs 15 Juggs Spec ops lvl (again coop toned that down). Blops was just easy, with the allied npcs having learned to fight.

...people seem to miss the point of difficulty settings...their there so if you find the game too easy (thus boring) you can ramp up the difficulty to make it more of a challenge. or if your going threw a second playthrough,do you really want to play a game on the same difficulty that you already mastered again? and really now...you shouldnt play games for the achievements alone, shouldnt you play them for fun instead?

Simply stay low and let you team do a lot of the killing.
In Black Ops? I find my team mates do very little. And they also refuse to push forwards unless you get to a certain point; and then they'll catch you up. This also happened in COD5, but not COD4 or MW2 - can anybody see a trend there?
Really? I was able to make it through the Nova 6 gas suit part without firing more than ten shots on Veteran. I simply let the two marines kill everyone. You're right about them not advancing, but that's in every game. The way to get around that is to run forward, duck behind something, then let your team catch up, as you said, and kill everyone. Worked for me plenty of times.

It did happen in CoD 4 - just to advance them you had to be waaaay in front. And Modern Warfare 2 had the team that would do it all for you - glad they changed that.

I do them all on veteran just because it's become a tradition for me and there's a ton of gamerscore in it.
It might just be that my blatant love for COD4's singleplayer campaign has rewritten my memory but I seem to remember the team mates being quite useful on Veteran. I can't be sure though, it's a long time since I completed that on Veteran.

That's actually one of the levels I'm dreading, seeing as the first time I played through it I died three or four times - on Regular. I think I had the mentality that if I can't see them then they can't see me. I was stood relatively in the open just picking people off. Such a pro tactic, I know. Thanks for the advice, I'll see how it goes.

Oh man, I hated World at War's Veteran mode. Super accurate enemies with super accurate grenades that they have alot of. You have to be like, RoboCop or something to beat that difficulty, because it's fucking bullshit.

Yeah, Veteran difficulty isn't really worth it. Except in MW2, where most of the game wasn't really hard, only a few sections had me yelling, as opposed to World at War's 'All of it'

Oh yeah they were useful (well the invulnerable ones at least) but they were pretty reserved about advancing. I remember that TV station room where they would only advance after you got to the end and enemies stopped spawning

Random instakill field when running away from the house in the second to last mission of MW2 - bullshit.

Big open fields in WaW or BO, where someone else runs out and stands outside of cover and no one takes a shot, you poke your head up and before you're standing you're dead - BS.

I play Veteran for the achievements, but it's not a real game mode.

You don't enjoy it? Stop. Really, if the challenge feels to much, no need for it.

Unless you get off on achievements or something.

I've attempted only three CoD games on Veteran - CoD 1, WaW, MW2, BlOps.

Out of those, World At War was the only one that defeated me, because it's unfairly hard.

Black Ops does that, too, but it's far from impossible and gets frustrating at exactly ONE point of the game, which you can beat through sheer luck.
