I feel the problem with World at War is that Modern Warfare came out before it, I was very disappointed when they went back to just another world war two game. I've been killing Nazi's since i was a wee lad and the switch to killing arabs, russians, and brazilians added some delicious spices to the flavorless gruel that is the world war two game.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Treys.

Treyarch gave CoD campaign coop, which its been begging for! IW then took it away to tell their shitty story in a more dramatic fashion.
I found Spec Ops superior to the Co-op campaign. It disposed of all the scenes that I had to sit through every time in WaW.

IW are douchebags as they focused on the game and not the players.
Umm, isn't that what the devs are supposed to focus on.
You know, the fucking game?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEAH. You might be slightly biased.
Aww, come on, Onyx. You just discovered I am a IW fanboy?
Still, I really don's see coop in WaW being better than Spec Ops.
Spec Ops is damn good. I kinda miss the story bits...They weren't very long, and the AI stayed around, so you didn't feel like just 2 guys. Also, we made fun of Reznov's hat a lot.

Well, they still were there.
I've seen that "cigare scene" like 50 times already.
And what's your issue with Reznov's hat? Seems like a usual stereotypical russian ushanka to me.
I guess I just answered my question.

Did it drop off the radar? I'm still playing it. It's probably my favourite COD game so far. Much better than MW2. It improves on MW1 as well.

The story mode is gritty and authentic and the multiplayer is probably the best balanced of the lot.

So I don't think it was a failure at all.
Thank you!
Someone actually fucking agrees.

I honestly thought it trumped MW and MW2 (I'm talking SP here, don't do online MP). The story in WaW was a lot more immersive, while still being very epic; and the climax! Wow, I needed to change my pants after experiencing that.

It was because it was only Call of Duty in name, and engine. It was made by different people. It's like Guinness outside of Ireland. Just not the same.
But its still Guinness, and if you choose to enjoy it no matter the flaws, you'll be drunk off yer' ass either way.

First off it isn't CoD5 it is CoDWAW secondly it has a very broken multiplayer balance between spray guns and bolt action rifles as all rifles in the game are horribly doen and sprayers are no where near accurate enough. Also the vehicles don't help.

Treyarch's Call of Duty 3 was pretty poor, but World at War was a great game, with the campaign being the only stale part for me as it's yet another World War 2 game. I would love Treyarch to do another Call of Duty game that isn't based on a war. If they had the chance to do a Modern Warfare game, we could see something special and hopefully not as slapdash as Infinity Ward's last effort.

I dunno. Personally, I thought the thing was a pile of shit (zombies included). Perhaps enough people think the same to have stopped talking about it?

I don't think it dropped off the radar... It kinda followed a similar pattern to the previous games in the series: it comes out, the internet gets excited over any new features, the campaign mode, etc. Then after that it just becomes a given that you play it online. Call Of Duty games (even before the controversial Modern Warfare stuff) were very much in the vein of yearly-updated sports titles, in that they improved by increments, and each new game was viewed as the definitive reading, so to speak.

I'll start by saying I only play Hardcore. It's the only way to play CoD, all of your shots count.

WaW was a success but it was just average. It didn't hold a candle to CoD4. In multiplayer the spawns were shitty, people would spawn behind you, you's regularly spawn infront of enemies, you'd spawn under artillery etc.

The special grenades were useless unlike the very useful flash and stun. last stand made the bolt actions useless. It was so good that everyone had it. Unless you hit a head shot everytime (or were far away with a scope,) you were looking at a 1:1 K to D. at best. Plus the maps weren't great (although none were as bad as Wasteland on MW2).

Once they removed tanks from hardcore I went straight back to CoD4. It was the only thing that seperated it from a poor mans CoD4. You were left with maps designed on a scale for vehicles, just without the vehicles. You'd respawn in the arse end of nowhere then have to trudge your way back to where the action is hoping not to get picked off by a sniper (and because of this flaw there were lots of snipers). The tanks made certain areas of the map really risky for infantry, funneling the action into smaller areas. Take the tanks away and thats gone. It also removed any need to use rockets or satchel charges, tripling the amount of betties over night.

I went spent about 3-4 months on WaW then went back to CoD4. Don't get me started on Nazi Zombies. I played it a few times then got bored of it and never played it again. The only way I found superior was the stat tracking on the WaW website.

WaW was average, MW2 is good but CoD4 was the dogs bollocks.

Nazi zombies was an amazing an fun game mode that kept me constantly coming back for months with each new pack. However, the multiplayer and single player campaigns were fairly forgettable and didnt really keep me wanting to play.

Treyarch suck at making games? That could be the reason.
Considering the World at war was a complete copy of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4. Treyarch didn't try anything new with the multiplayer except to put vehicles in, which really didn't work. The only thing that people will remember of World at War was nazi zombies, which is just like a bonus mode. That itself shows why it failed really quick, coz the best part of the game was a bonus mode =/. Treyarch are just a crap company lucky enough to find themselves sharing a game franchise that was made famous by infinity ward, so they just copy all IW's ideas and claim it's their game.
This all means that Treyarch's COD games will never do as well as IW's games.
Also I will never buy another Treyarch game, unless they make something original.

thats why they are called sprayers, they spray.... Since when was a spray hose accurate? its more of a plume of water in my opinion.

OT: i think waw was a exceptional game, it was more gruesome than its mw counterparts and it seemed to draw you into the gritty-ness of the war that much more. I enjoyed the game for a good while, even without the Nazi Zombies. Treyarch stepped it up after the Cod3 failure in my opinion.

One might not easily guess it but I love WaW. I mean sure the campaign was a bit meh(and frustrating) at times, but the being the history buff that I am (WW2 specifically) the gritty nature of burning Japs, fending off banzai troopers and fighting my way into Germany was a great experience that I still like to come back to even now. And on top of all that thiers the last getting to fight be a part of the force that stormed the reichstag and to top it all off getting to plant the Soviet flag (which solidified Germany defeat) at the end of the level was an amazing experience. Multiplayer is fun (when get into it) but I mostly stick to Nazi Zombies (the main reason I keep coming back) the campaign second and third the multiplayer
