It's so sad that that you are right and I am wrong. An anti nazi soldier can be done without uproar though. the german sergeant in the BRA:HH spinoff novel is a prime example of this.
Focus on the word 'novel'... books can get away with pretty much anything, but video games can't even have side boob, let alone explore the deepness within a Nazi soldier, regardless of their beliefs.

bloody dogs, I had to empty a clip into one to kill it in single player. Only thing I can hope for is if the dogs stay and munch on a fallen soldier for a little while first so then I have an excuse to throw hand grenades at team-meats... I mean mates.

Also dogs should have a chance of accidently attacking your own team, as dogs arn't all that smart and would gladly munch on the nearest person, especially if they're not being shot it by him.

I don't why you are all complaining about WW II. The "modern warfare" you all crave is so boring! What do you do? Kill Arabs and russians. Like thats much better then Murdering nazis? maybe more fictionalized conflicts are needed America VS. britain and the U.N. perhaps? Because thats what games are; FICTION!

If you portrayed the protagonist as anti-nazi then it could be possible. He could say that is fighting for the fatherland and not for Hitler. Why not?
Even if the protagonist was anti-Nazi (which is highly unlikely, since Hitler's charisma made him seen as some sort of god-like creature), the media would be in an uproar over portraying a Nazi, and killing American soldiers (because we all know that Fox News will be the main contribute to the media frenzy).

The time will come when video games could be used to explore and express mature themes and issues, but now is not the time. Which is unfortunate, since till then, we're stuck with Call of Duty and Medal of Honour rip-offs (except for Brothers in Arms of course).

Company of Heroes did that. The Opposing Fronts expansion featured a campaign for the axis during Market Garden. The Germans in the game even comment that they aren't fighting for any "glorious empire", they are fighting for each other. Company of Heroes is pretty popular, and I don't remember any kind of uproar about leading Germans against British and Americans.

Really? I've heard of Company of Heroes, but that's an RTS, right? I suppose I'm a bit sore from the media's treatment of video games (on top of the Australian government's treatment, in regards to censorship), but I don't think my claims are unfounded. I suppose that, because it's an RTS, it's not as bad as if it were an FPS. Forgive me for not playing the game, but is it a FP POV, or a camera looking down? If it's the former, then someone could go "Video games are teaching my children to murder Americans!!"...

Though, I suppose you have a point that immediately playing from the Axis doesn't mean they will get jumped on. Hopefully, some WW2 shooter ends up doing this.

i personally think that every type of shooter has been overdone, there are generally 3 types of shooters ww2, modern and futuristic.

we are now basically stuck with remakes of those three types...unless they do like a 1600 century shooter with muskets and stuff but that would probably be a failure....no wait.....i am thinkin about it and it might actually be cool! it would be sorta like sniping cuz of the one shot reload factor but sorta like at a closer range with melee mixed in (like bayonets) and then maybe and then like you could mix in squad gameplay bcuz have 2 command your battalion to move to the right position and use the right tactics and u also have to follow the generals orders

omg this might actually be some good! plz give me feed back

or u could just do something like LordCraigus and get 2 play as the nazis!! mother fucker that would be cool!
