I bought this game expecting it to be a foul mouthed, sly double entendre filled, shotgun blast to the chest fest interspersed with some relatively crappy vehicle missions.

I'm not disappointed in the least!

Nobody could make the game good enough to release for about a decade and a half. Why is anyone surprised that it still isn't good? Were people honestly expecting this to be worth playing?

But these are the facts: Gearbox attained the project after 3d Realms worked on it for almost a decade. Frankly, I wouldn't be suprised if all Gearbox was able to do were a few touches and basically finishing levels and such. Basically, most of the bad design decisions were 3D Realms. We knew this was coming. It's pretty much your fault for holding out hope. Just Saiyan.

Nice DBZ pun.

Anyways, I agree.

It's clear that Gearbox has no issue with having more than two weapons or non regen health, as seen in borderlands.
4-weapon limit. Just Saiyan!

God I love DBZ: Abridged.
While i'm here, i'd like to point out that people should stop comparing it to halo when:

-Halo wasn't the first game to limit you to to 2 weapons.

- No halo game has had regenerating health*

Now...

Bye....

It's Gearbox's fault the game exists. Therefore it's their fault that it sucks.

I wasn't looking forward to the game at all any way. Had no intention of playing it when it was announced, have no intention of playing it now.

Guess what? When you take over a project, that project becomes your responsibility. I don't care if 3D Realms had 99% of the game done when Gearbox took over. 100% of the blame would be on Gearbox. They are the ones who bought the rights and released a subpar product.

To all complains about Duke Nukem being halo clone, read this [http://godmode.keenspot.com/d/20070924.html] strip and you would understand(probably) why DNF was such a disaster.

As an American, I can't say anything about DNF until I've played it, although the demo left me less optimistic than before I played it.

In the time that DNF has been in development coverbased shooting has been invented and then done to death. Several times. People have been asking for the return to health kits for years now. Actually longer then it would take to make an entirely new game, which is what gearbox should have been doing in my Opinion.

Duke Nukem was the character People hoped would bring back health kits, the ability to carry many exotic and ridiculous weapons and reasons to go and explore levels.

And then he didn't.
Whoever was responsible for this: Why? Why would you yank this old character out of the old school shooting and stuff him into cover based health regenerating blandness?
Duke Nukem, of all the game characters in the world is probably one of the least fitting characters for coverbased shooting. I have an easier time imagining Link behind a column in a cave and shooting arrows at enemies.

On the top of my head, i could think of several solutions to the regenerating bs. Have health regenerate slowly. If a player wants to sit on his as for a rather long time, he might do so. If he doesn't, he'd better remember where those healthkits two rooms ago where.

Gearbox hasn't had enough time to think of something like that and had the duke take cover liker every shooter character nowadays. If any Company who puts these shooters out wonders about rather low sales, they should be tactfully reminded that there are about a million games around which do the same thing.

In all honesty, the only thing that makes me hesitant on Duke is the two weapon thing. Puzzles are fun, and I don't care on how the health system works, regenerating health can be nice. It's just that two of the weapons (one of which I enjoy) are usually very impractical but are fun to use, the two being the freeze ray (Which I don't know if they still have) and the shrink ray.
I don't know how it will play out in DNF so I can't say much, but I feel like those gun will be rarely touched in the single player for most people, at least in the first playthrough.

Now that you mention it, it makes sense. My two complaints from the demo were the two weapon limit and driving. Driving without a mouse is annoying and horrible for control, and looking at Borderlands, I'm pretty sure Gearbox would have made driving with a mouse in DNF. But, whatever. I'll still probably enjoy DNF when it is released here...

actually they had it over a year, enough for them to change weapon limits health systems eic, just not enough to make tons of content.
but content isn't a problem of the game, you have so much different stuff to do.

Yeah, I haven't played it yet, but from what I have seen it seems to be more of 3D Realms thing than Gearbox's. Though I am still wondering what the hell 3D Realms were doing that whole time.

I'm not saying I like regenerative health or the basic 2-weapon system, but considering the game simply would never have existed, I don't think gearbox did such a bad job comparatively.

But how can you complain about puzzle elements? Not Duke Nukemy enough?

I don't actually have any experience with the game itself, just saying.

"No! My mind rejects it!" <-- Think I'm going to use that line from now on.

I think Gearbox did the most they could with the mess they were handed. I'm not sure how people know Gearbox's choices (A url would be nice), but I think they had to fix whatever abomination 3D Realms handed them. It's possible that regenerative health and two weapons was the only thing they could do in the time that they had. Do we really know? They even delayed it another month or so so they could achieve a mirror shine. But if you polish a turd, it's still a turd. Maybe Gearbox wanted to be done with the whole fiasco as much as anyone else did.

I think we should give Gearbox a break. I have not played DNF, but I'm sure they did the best they could in the few months they had with the game. 3D Realms is the one who needs to explain themselves.
