This question has bugged me ever since I heard it on the RoosterTeeth Drunk Tank Podcast (for those of you who don't know what that is, go download it for free from iTunes). In truth, I believe it absolutely could do it, it would just be a long time to do it, like the adamantium would be fighting with the lightsaber.

What do you think happens?

I think the lightsaber could cut through it, but I agree it would take a really long time. I mean, when you think about it, adamantium can be heated to produce a liquid and since lightsabers probably generate heat that would help cut through the adamantium.

Well, since a Lightsaber is more related to light (Duh), yeah, I don't think any physical substance could really block/hinder it even slightly, considering that it's just pure energy, rather than it having a physical form.

Well a Lightsaber can't cut through Phrik alloy according to canon. That's all I know.

I would think that the result of Lightsaber meets Adamantium would be similar or the lightaber would take a loooong time to cut through it.

But according to XMen: Origins it can only be liquidised in it's ore form, one cooled after being liquidised it is indestructible, bar adamantium weapons (i.e. Striker's Adamantium bullets)

Lightsabers doesn't exist, silly, and neither does adamantium.

=)

As for the hypothetical question, I have no idea. Don't know the specific properties of either subject, so any statement I give would ultimately go without any data.

I'd imagine the lightsaber would win, I can't imagine any metal stopping a beam of energy like that entirely. It'd just be a lot harder to cut through.

The Lightsaber when held by a Jedi Master can cut through anything...

BTW I have only seen the movies about 1.5 times each.

No, it would just heat it until it is the same temperature as the beam. Adamantium doesn't melt, therefore a lightsaber can't cut it.

Knights of the Old Republic has established that there are some things a Lightsaber cannot slice through instantly (they called it "cortosis weave").

It would cut through eventually, but it would take awhile.

i don't even think it would take a long time.

Its a beam of energy, and as far as my severely limited knowledge extends the only thing thats ever blocked a lightsaber is a second lightsaber.

Other lightsaber blades? No
Everything else other than those? Looks good to me!

I think the adamantium would reflect it since it's light and Wolverine has cut stuff up with refracted lasers a couple times

The lightsaber can do it. You'll just be unable to escape from a adamantium cell for a long time. Even then, people will probably notice your efforts and try to stop you seeing as you would have to penetrate it then cut out a hole for yourself.

However, it's not as though the lightsabre can only cut through things that melt. It's cut through many things that didn't melt, like solid bone.

yes but it is cutting through those things the same way a blowtorch cuts thing, by superheating them(hot knife through butter style).

*sigh* Lightsabers "cut" things by rapidly melting them. Like a plasma-torch, there is no actual blade... Phisics Fail.
