I believe Kurt Cobain once sang... "It's okay to eat fish, 'cause they don't have any feelings." ;-)
Kurt Cobain also shot himself in the face. I wouldn't follow his example if I was you.

Since your brother is vegetarian, why not just ask him?

Oh, and the people calling "vegetarians" who eat fish hypocrites: Jeez, relax. Why do you even care what they call themselves or what they eat? This is probably one of the silliest things I have ever seen people get riled up over. Even online.

And another thing!... vegetarian is a term used to describe ANY animal that eats ONLY plants... when was the last time you saw a horse eat a rabbit??
You're thinking of herbivore. That's not the same. A herbivore is usually unable to digest meat because of the way their digestive system works. A vegetarian is (usually) a vegetarian by choice.

It's miscommunication. Don't call yourself a vegetarian if you aren't, simple as that. Especially if others have to alter plans to account for these preferences. Fish for 4 and 2 vegetarian meals becomes awkward when they all end up wanting fish.

Fish do not count as meat, that's why some Veg's eat it. Of course they shouldn't if they are vegetarians as it counts as an animal, yet not as meat.

I don't understand how eating honey is oppressing the bees. I eat food that burger jockeys make and I don't find that oppressing to them.

Bees don't get their gut split open and Cooked. Although i hardly give a shit about what the damn fish thinks. If it doesn't like something then it can get on top of the food chain and stop me from killing it.

Dairy products don't kill or (usually) even harm the animal being milked, but they're still animal products, and a vegan diet can't include them, similar to honey.

And while no, gathering honey dosen't generally kill the bees (there are a certain number that do get caught in and thankfully filtered out of the stuff during processing,) shaving down the comb does essentially destroy both the bee's home (artifical though it is) and robs it of it's stored food supply.

Would you feel the same way if your (vegetarian) neighbors broke into your house, stole all your food and ate some, fermented others and sold the rest to other people and then said "Well we didn't hurt the guy, so it's not like it's cannibalism."

They never would be able to, see i would defend myself. Just like bees do, but we are too strong for them which is why we take it. Would you rather get shot in the leg or the head?
The fish would a LOT more pissed IMO.
Again, humans are on the top of the food chain, animals can go suck it.

So because we're on the top of the food chain I should eat meat even though I think it's wrong? And since other species aren't as advanced as us we should just go slaughter them?

I have no problem with you if you're not a vegetarian, but if you're going to act like an ignorant prick I'll have a problem with you.

I've know a few vegetarians who are dead set against eating land animals & slaughterhouses, but who eat Tuna.
Hey, we all have to choose sides and draw the line somewhere. They just chose to side with the landwalking faction.

Sure, let's put you in a room with a lion and see how that works out.

To be fair, although a lion would kill a single human being, that doesn't really have anything to do with the food chain. You're forgetting how highly adaptable a human being is, versus a lion who wouldn't survive but a week or so outside of its habitat.

But, to play devil's advocate to wewt, too.. there really shouldn't be a such thing as a "top" or a "bottom" to food chains. It's all one big circle jerk.

I understand your sentiment (was actually expecting it) however the food chain concept is really an observation of the transference of energy across various life forms within specific ecosystems. The notion that we are "on top" is archaic since we are also edible to other animals. The fact that I have a gun doesn't change that.
