You might say that now, but if you had more money, I think your tune would change.

I don't know if you are aware of arcade enthusiasts who buy and put together arcade cabinets for home use. I think the fully furnished cabinets cost something like $3k; here [http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/pcb/Dodonpachi_Daifukkatsu_7583.html] you can see a single game (to be placed inside such a cabinet) that costs $2.5k. Not some collector's item, but a new game released in 2008.

Many people who aren't even car enthusiasts spend $50k on a car without much thought, while a $20k car would get them from A to B perfectly well. What, then, means $1k on a game you love?

Even if I were a millionaire I don't think I'd spend 1k on a game. And a car is different. People buy expensive cars to adhere to a certain lifestyle i.e. you buy a Ferrari to publically show people you're rich, and to get the women with the nice bodies, and all the people in the bar to want to be your best friend etc.

No one but another car enthusiast pays enough attention to a random Audi to notice it's a hideously expensive S4 instead of a mid-priced A4 with a sport package. And even another car enthusiast won't be able to tell that mods may have been done to a car under the hood, even though they may cost more than the car itself did.

Anyway. People put money in all kinds of hobbies and things that no one but themselves will ever see or know about.
