Can Arachnophobia develop, rather than be inherent?

Okay so the consensus seems to be that phobias develop rather than are inherent. So where the fuck did my fear of buttons come from? Seriously just typing the word is making me ill. Can't look at them, can't touch them, can't look at pictures of them. Never choked on one because I've never gone near them. I have a good memory of my life from about 3 years old. So did something happen to me before that?

Educating yourself about spiders can either enhance or decrease phobias. What it for sure will do is tell you exactly what's dangerous and what's not. I fully admit, living in the woods of the midwest, my house does have a mild brown recluse infestation. But nobody has been bit as of yet, not in over 30 years, they're just kinda there and if they come out in the open, they are promptly smashed and disposed of. I'd rather not take the risk after all. Spiders, like anything else, are often completely benign if left alone, though I have seen aggressive spiders. One in particular was hiding under my monitor and would jump at my hand when I moved my mouse. However this was not a recluse, rather a common house spider that decided my desk was a nice corner to hide in. I've also seen a couple red legged purseweb spiders around - endangered species - and several varieties of jumping spiders which aren't exactly shy around humans either. Needless to say our fly problem is minimal at best. I never see the pests beyond the dogfood bowl I keep outside. Standing aggreement is the spiders don't bite us and we keep them well fed.

I doubt spiders belong in the 'danger sense' category, considering how almost all of them that humans came into contact with in the past are pretty much harmless to us. Large animals wouldn't be entirely true either. Predators and aggressive animals, yes. But not all large animals.

Anyway, doesn't really matter I guess. As you're definitely right about phobia's always being irrational fears. I guess I fall under the category of 'light phobia' then for spiders. As I can get a panic attack if a particularly large one is shown within a few feet of me, while it isn't behind glass. (Like a tarantula.) Though behind glass, or talking about them is fine.
