As people have said, its all about Paradigm shifts, either you like it or you dont. Personally I adored the combat, Imo they took the germ of the idea from FF X-2, which was the one thing that game got right, and made the best combat system FF has ever seen around it. No more junk fights to wear you down and difficulty was just right.
