I'm tired of going online to read or watch a review, and I get a bunch of douche bags leaving comments about how much Call of Duty sucks, or any game is better than Call of Duty. I don't mind that if someone doesn't like Call of Duty, but people act like assholes. It's idiots like this that makes the gaming industry look bad and immature.
Well, in cases like this dismissing the critics as "haters" is worse than what your complaining about.
I think the issue a lot of people have with it is that it gets so much attention and monopolizes so much of the industry and gaming community, as well as being a generally negative influance on it and the hobby as a whole.
"Call Of Duty" is pretty much Farmville for a differant crowd, it's an ultra casual game intended to be approachable to anyone with brain wave activity, it's done a lot to bring the "Bros" and "Frat Boys" into the gaming community in large numbers, which has changed the market, and lead to more and more games being developed for that demographic. Not to mention the assersion that because the games have high production values, and violence, that they represent "hardcore" gaming. Despite the rating the simply fact that you have kids as young as 9 playing these games with some success online and so on, should give you some idea as to how "Hardcore" they actually are despite the content.
A lot of serious gamers also like this series, but the fact that it's turned into a situation here a new CoD game is a "stop the presses" moment, and sees other games scheduled around it's release... and most importantly encourages legions of imitators drawn by the lure of mainstream dollars who could be producing other types of games (you know the whole "there are enough games for everyone to be happy regardless..."... but oh wait, all the devs are making shooters or casual games for the Iphone or Facebook...).
The point is that the "haters" have reasons to be the way they are, whether you agree with them or not, and remaining silent isn't going to change anything. Even if it's an uphill battle, I can see why they are trying.
Ask yourself how many people playing this latest round of CoD and Battlefield are already complaining about getting annoyed at all the elementary school and Jr. High kids... when evaluating the overall quality of the game, with it's "deep and innovative gameplay" consider that it's actually planted at roughly the same approachable intellectual level as "Spongebob Squarepants"... and that irks people when they see it being lionized to this extent.
