Can I ask a quick question before I buy a 360?

Hi, I'm thinking about buying an Xbox 360 and shall probably get an arcade version. But I just want to check: what's the real difference between the arcade version and the elite one? and will the 512MB of memory on the arcade one be enough for a lot of saved game data?

I'd suggest getting the Premium version, if nothing else. It's a nice in between and it comes with 20 gb of memory (I think...) Plus, you'll get a free game or two with the premium.

I thought when I first got my 260 that I'd never use up my 20gb, but here I am now down to 5 or 6 and I'm starting to feel a tad cramped. 513mb is definitely not enough.

Depends on what you plan on doing. If your going to get a live account you'll want a hard drive to make the most out of the downloadable content and stuff. You could always get one later on though.

No.
The Arcade version isn't even backwards compatible. The Elite just got a $100 price cut, just buy it. Keep in mind that the Arcade has 512 Mega bytes, or half of one Giga Byte. The Elite has 120 gigabytes. Do not buy the Arcade as you will end up buying a new Hard Drive anyway, which is more expensive to get seperate.

512MB is nothing. I've got the Elite with 120GB and it's 3/4 full. You'll need a proper hard drive if you want to keep game saves, DLC, game installs etc.

The premium no longer exists, neither does the 60 GB model. In the US the only choices are Arcade or Elite. In that choice the answer is clear.

Wait, what? When did that happen? Wow then, disregard what I said, get the elite ><

Definately get the Elite. I have one of the older models with the 20G HD and I am out of space. You can buy the 60G HD as a separate add on, but its 100 bucks. What PISSES me off is before the Elite got the price cut, you could buy the 120G HD as an add on for the same 100. The 60G comes with a headset, but so what.

Ok, well I don't own a regular Xbox (I have a PS2 which I'm gonna keep to play older games on) so backwards compatibility isn't an issue either way. Though partly the reason I decided against buying a PS3.

But I see your point(s), thanks for the info. Of course this all depends on my budget (low) so I'll have to see what I can find, but definitely gonna look at the elite now. Thanks :)

I would recommend the elite because you will want the space for downloads. If you aren't planning on connecting to LIVE then you can get by fine with the arcade console as you will only need to be storing gamesaves but you're likely to want to download game content and games which NEED a decent sized hard drive. I have 20GB and that is not enough, I have to keep deleting things to make space so get the Elite, I think it's worth the extra if you can afford it.

One more thing to remember : Stay away from used 360's. Microsoft just banned somewhere between 600,000 to 1 million consoles from Live, so the used console market is going to be flooded with recently banned consoles. If you ever thought about ever maybe getting Live ever, you'll want to stay away from those.

Even if you didn't buy a banned console, it won't have it's warranty anymore, even if it is still in the warranty period of the original purchase. Save for an Elite, it may be a bit much now, but it is less hassle later.

You won't be able to have the full Xbox Live experience with the Arcade Version. Quite simply because you won't be able to have room to download map add-ons and other things we they come out, this will bar you from certain rounds in most games multiplayer.

Also, you wouldn't be able to download any demos. There's another feature where you can install games to the hard drive, you still need the disc in the machine but it makes it faster at loading and quite a bit quieter.

In either case I think you'll need to purchase a separate HDMI cable to get HD, I'm pretty sure they're not included with the Elite anymore.

You'll also get a one month Xbox Live Gold subscription and a headset.

Basically you'll save in the long run getting the Elite. The Arcade is a bit of a scam so M$ can say they offer a 'cheap' console.

Elite baby. All the way. DLC/Game Installs will eat up your hard drive space and there just isn't enough on an Arcade.

Do NOT get an arcade unless you plan to ONLY have save game data for VERY few games at a time. Either get the Pro (normal amounts of space) version or the Elite (for extra, mucho space if you plan to get a lot of games/download a lot of stuff on it.)

Don't get an arcade. Get an elite. If you want to play online you'll have to buy a hard drive, then along with Live and an adapter it will cost more than just buying an elite.

But if you could I'd tell you to just get a good PC. 90% of the 360s upcoming and released games at a cheaper price with better graphics and free online that isn't full of racist kids.

If the choice is just between the elite(assuming it's still being sold for $299.99) and the arcade, go for the elite. The one 512Mb memory card just isn't big enough if you plan to do a lot of saves. Also if you get the elite you won't have to worry about how many games you have room to download.

Game saves are a few MB or a few KB. But loading times are horrible when the game is not installed, and installed games require about 5-7GB of HD space(most games' loading times are improved by 50% or more) and Demos require a few hundred MB(up to 1GB) of space.

The Arcade is pathetic and it's only real use is to get Microsoft more money when you buy one to play your games after sending your RRoD'd xbox to Microsoft.
