Here's the situation. I bought this xbox with my own money, there is another xbox in the house (but it seldom works because of a dirty laser). One of my brothers bursts into my room and goes "let me use your xbox." i just told him no because im downloading something.

so technically if he takes it after i told him not to, can i call the police on him? (he also has some shady friends over that i dont want here, can i get rid of them too? technically speaking.)

and yes. i would call the police on my own brother. he's a drug addict who spends more than half his day (actually calculated) high and spends every last penny of his money on buying more drugs. i dont care about that, though, and ive never reported him for it. but if his actions start to interfere with my life.... thats where i draw the line

EDIT: he's already stolen some of my property (stuff that seems unlikely to be stolen or could easily be blamed on someone else). he's even taken my ID on more than one occasion. dont ask how it works for him. he doesnt even look like me yet he takes it anyways :/

Yeah, why not? It's your property, and it's technically being stolen by someone else. Doesn't matter who takes it.

You could certainly call the police.

They would be SUPER pissed that you did, and there's a reasonable chance they'll tell you to fuck yourself sideways, but you could do it.

only if he takes it out of the house with intent to sell it.

but if it's a problem invest 15 bucks on a lock for your door.

Yes. Theft is theft.

Although, if he or one of his dumbass friends' brandishes a weapon, prepare to defend yourself.

Who you gonna call?

You could save the police's time and buy a lock.
Or tell him to go fuck himself and dispose of all of his drugs.

If you do, you'll most likely catch some serious heat about making a frivolous call to the cops. Calling them for that is, I think, about the same as calling the cops because you don't like how your nails turned out at the salon or Mcdonalds ran out of chicken nuggets. Spend some money on a lock, preferably a key lock for you door and carry the key with you at all times, and let your parents know about your brother pulling that crap.
Calling the cops when you know he has drugs on him, on the other hand, might be a better plan. I'd just be sure to call the non-emergency police line (if one exists) rather than dialing 911.

Hmm...tough call.

Where are your parents? Get them to intervene first.
well thats the problem. they're never around. im legally an adult so im the only one responsible for the house most of the time. but no one listens to me, so i just ended up shutting myself in my room all the time to avoid my brothers doing this to me:

Me: You shouldn't have a picture of yourself doing drugs right on your cell phone background. You know you-
A Brother (either): SHUT UP! GOD! YOU'RE SO ANNOYING!
Me: I'm just trying to-
Brother: NO THEY CAN'T!
Me: Yes they-
Brother: Shut up.
Me: I'm jus-
Brother: Shut up.
Me: Will yo-
Brother (pretending like he's talking to someone else): Wow, he just won't shut up. Didn't I just tell him to shut up?

real conversation i had this morning. not taken out of context

Technically yes but you will bave to deal with SO MUCH SHIT! The cops will not take you seriously and your brother will probably try to kick your ass. My advice: call them when he is high. Tell the cops he burst into your room and took the Xbox and look like he was on drugs. They will arrive, listen to both sides of the story and probably side with you because, you know, the drug thing. They can take him away if they find drugs on him. Just remeber: if this doesn't work out, you will have to fight him.

You can probably buy a deadbolt lock/any other type of door lock and then Google a "How to" guide.

Just a bolt is really easy but you have to be in the room to use it (you can't lock when you're going away)

Edit: as far as calling the cops goes, you could do it, but be prepared for a ton of shit after, chances are they're not going to keep him more than 24 hours (if that) as long as he dosen't touches you, and when he comes back he might be less than pleased...try getting your parents involved ?

There are locking doorknobs you can buy at probably any hardware store or Wal-Mart type place. All you'd have to do is replace the doorknob, and the box comes with directions for doing that.

I think that if you call the cops for something like that you're going to have some really pissed off cops on your hands. Police officers have better things to do with their time than settle disputes about who the xbox belongs to, and I really doubt that they'll take you seriously.

If you decide to call them about the drugs, you do realize that you could very easily also be getting your parent's in trouble as well. I guess if you don't care about that, then that's your business, just realize though that calling the cops on your brother could have unintended effects.

My advice, don't do it. Get it back from him, and put a lock on your door. But don't waste the police officer's time on something so petty.

you make it sound like your X-box is your life

you probably could call the police legally, though you would seem very petty
