Me and my friend were playing Halo 2, and we thought man this music sounds pretty cool for this part. It was the heavy rock music in one of the last levels, sounds pretty cool and we think we did better because of it. Maybe we just got lucky. Anyways do you think music can make you do better in video games?

I like to think it does, but in reality it probably doesnt.

It kinda masks the sound of a tank coming in your direction.

I always tended to do better in Soul Calibre 2 when i had Rammstein playing. That's the only thing that springs to mind though

fuck yeah, i replayed that level last week for nostalgia and boredom, and that guitar part was awesome, and drove me not to sit out on the fight between the elites and brutes

We were playing a Halo 2 (oddly enough) multiplayer game, way back in the day. Our side was losing... badly. All of a sudden, Crazy Train comes on over the communicators and the team just freaking rallied. Kicked those other coloured bastards asses back to their mommas (racism ftw! Fuck red people!). I wish I had added the guy who put it on as a friend, he seriously won us that game.

So yes. I'd have to say it does.

Thats one of the best parts of the game lol. You can't sit out and not hate yourself for it.

I think that it can atleast make you think you do better. Increasing adrenaline or something. For me, having aggressive music on the background while gaming, sort of makes the experience more intense.

If I'm playing MW2, I almost always have some kind of rock song playing in the background. I feel like it helps me when I get frustrated, and mellows me out so I can start doing better

I used to think it does...but I just had the most awesome round of online FPS action in my entire 19 years of living. Top kills, 4 times back to back on MW2, without any music. So I'm now inclined to believe that the music doesn't help as much...

Sure. Can also make you play worse though. Case in point; myself and some friends used to play a lot of battlefield 1942. We had an Enya playlist running in the background nonstop. It made the game certainly VERY epic but I found myself diving into bushes or going prone if the music crescendo'd. A hilariously good time, but I certainly wasn't playing my best.

Good or bad actually

Something that gets me feeling pumped or excited can help when I'm assualting with a fully automatic weapon, but it doesn't exactly help when I'm sniping, seeing as I'll feel like chasing the enemy down and entering an open firefight with them, and that's not a good tactic when weilding a bolt action sniper rifle.

A good medium for me would probably I'll tell me ma seeing as it gets me feeling energetic, to a degree, for all forms of combat, Although finding a song for each style would be the best solution.

Sometimes really epic music (like any time in any COD game when your much needed air support finally arrives) can make you fight harder and brighten your spirit, but it can also make you careless.

I usually do, I blast my headphones when ever I'm at an arcade or gameowrks, and I play music off my laptop when chilling at home.

Blow Me Away, by Breaking Benjamin: amazing song. One of my favorite video game moments happened right there.

OT: Music helps set the mood in any visual art medium. Intensity in film is hugely dependent on the soundtrack, and games are not very different in that regard. The game can almost control your mood with the right music, which affects your playing.

Look to the infamous and tragic plot twist in Final Fantasy VII or the first time in Ocarina of Time's Hyrule Field for perfect examples.
