Can online gambling be considered as a "computer game" in the traditional sense?

I was reading the article on online gambling in america and i realised that i dont believe gambling to be too far removed from many computer games. I dont gamble online personally although i know people that do but hear are my thoughts.

Many games are taken from real life games and whatnot so the concept of moving it to a digitalised platform is not new

Paying to play is definitely not something that is new to games, world of warcraft and any other subscription games do it. With both you know you understand the terms in which you are paying for your hobby.

The only big argument against this that i can see is saying that games dont affect us in the real world but i think they have just as much potential like the boy who spent all his and his parents money buying farmville items.

Infact to me gambling online seems more worthwhile as a game (if you enjoy that "genre" you could say) than subscriptions as you stand to make money rather than lose it. maybe not as likely but if you take the attitude that your playing a game and paying for the experience then there are very few differences with it and gaming.

Tell me your thoughts!

In short, no. Computer gambling brings nothing to the table that regular gambling does not. A video game should provide some facet to the entertainment that can be achieved solely through the use of an electronic medium.

isn't gambling gaming? So... feh, I dont care enough about terminology to disagree with someone saying it's a game. It's just a shitty one that emulates everything that happens IRL except there's no eye movement or really any way to get any tells from the opponent, which makes it drastically inferior to the real thing.

I mean, when you're not surrounding a table with a few ashtrays, glasses for scotch, and in a smoke filled room with people wearing sunglasses indoors, cowboy hats, bandanas, and dress jackets acting like they're great at gambling and trying to mess with everyone else, then you're not doing it right.

really if there was a single player campaign poker game that'd be the most fun ever. But alas, online gambling is an epic fail when considering the real thing. It'd be in the art style of the Ace Attorney games and would be absolutely full of win.
