It's pretty simple:
- if you put your stuff on display it will get critiqued
- if your stuff is shit people will call it shit

Ergo:
- if you don't want your stuff to be called shit then you probably should make non shit
- if you don't want your stuff to be critiqued then you probably should keep it to yourself
And I understand that, but the question is what do you think of the practice of leaving negative comments on game play videos that are not advertized as expert quality.

Yes, obviously they're allowed. Others are allowed to call them out on it being a bit pants, too.
But the question is if that is a good thing to do. If the video is not advertized as being pro should people insult them for not being pro if that wasn't there intention?

OT: Of course not!
However, if you are putting up stuff that isn't of high quality performance, you should probably have something else that makes it better. Example: funny commentary.
A Youtuber who does this well is Chris Smoove. He isn't exactly a pro (he plays well but not MLG or anything) but a lot of people simply enjoy his commentary so he has hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
There, proof that you don't need to be an expert, just entertaining.

But generally do not bother reading Youtube comments, even when watching someone else's videos - they never lead to anything good.

Oh yes they do- they lead toa massive laughter and tears of joy-

Youtube Comments. Easily one of the funniest part of my internet daily life. I love them all :)
Not if you make content. There is a reason I stopped uploading recordings to Youtube and use Twitch as my platform, also the stream feature is much better and less hassles about copyright bollocks.

But main fact is: When I made youtube videos. The comments on the vids were something that even if you didn't care about them particular it made me sad about the fact what kind of people watched my content and how stupid most of them were. I was so disappointed I couldn't attract smarter audience. So I stopped and restarted on Twitch in which I have more control over the people watching.
