Getting it to run on the other hand was. Sure, i've noticed you don't get the pixel area decrease every time but it's a decent marker.
Most consoles tend to render to 720p, which is 921,600 pixels worth of screen. 1680x1050, the pretty much common default widescreen res these days has a pixel area of 1,764,000, 48% more area. 1080p is 2,073,600, a mild increase over 1680x1050... and i certainly think towards the end of consoles lives you might see less games supporting 1080p.
