As long as the technology is available, setting up a very high res (for it's day) wasn't a big deal.

Getting it to run on the other hand was. Sure, i've noticed you don't get the pixel area decrease every time but it's a decent marker.

Most consoles tend to render to 720p, which is 921,600 pixels worth of screen. 1680x1050, the pretty much common default widescreen res these days has a pixel area of 1,764,000, 48% more area. 1080p is 2,073,600, a mild increase over 1680x1050... and i certainly think towards the end of consoles lives you might see less games supporting 1080p.
well even the tiny 1280x1024 has more pixels than 720P but I think the opposite as consoles age the programmers get better, compare the original MGS on the playstation to previous PS1 games.

Well, I think we should, because the consoles are just becoming PCs nowadays, especially the PS3 as you can install Linux onto it and stuff lol

Yeah, about the linux on PS3. Think it's possible to put NES/SNES emulators on that?

Yes, and yes, it's won the console war already. The price of a Xbox/PS3 equivilent Micro PC is cheaper than the consoles, it can play more games (Ports ftw) and you can patch/tweak the games after you buy it. All in all, I think it's pretty much pointless to argue against the obvious superiority :)

The PC is not a Games console.
Therefore, it is not in the console war. Something I am glad of, knowing most of the population of consoles.

But if it WAS in the console war, then the console war would probably be over.

Probably, if you download it

No a PC cannot. Mostly because a PC is so far ahead in the Console race that its observing it by orbital telescope from the planet Awesome.

PC IT STILL IN THE RACE!!! I'm one of the cheap bastards who want to play certain games (Bioshock, Fallout 3, GTA IV) and don't want to go out and get another consol. It's not that I don't want 2 consols lying around I just don't want to spend 300+ dollars on a game system and then another 50 on a single game that I will play, beat, and get bored with in a few monthes time. Also, let the record show that PC graphix are occasionally better than the system's. Bioshock for the PC, though it may be slightly problematic, looks so mush better than the XBox's. Granted the state of the computer does matter, but if the computer is in good condition and works nicely, like in system situations too, it will provide the same entertainment with less of the hassel.

Um, no they do not--some of those are Apple products, and Apple isn't really a competitor on the gaming platform landscape. (Maybe "casual" games.) I find it funny, because all the non-gamers I know have Apple machines, and all the gamers still use Windows.

Well, the same mechanical process, that's why similar hardware is needed in some electronics; memory, processing, HD, etc. A Mac IS a computer but it's a whole different animal when it comes to software, and it's very proprietary. Think of it this way, they're all in the same class but in a different family, in the end they're all in the same kingdom (although this ain't biology).

Short answer: no
Long answer: nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
really long answer: no, because PC-Games tend to have more depth while Console-Games are more casual-oriented. It's like comparing apples to bananas: you can eat both, but bananas (aka PCs) can be used for so much more fun stuff... (Please don't hate me, this sentence hurts myself so bad i had to overthink it for 5 minutes before hitting the Post-button)

Umm, it doesn't need to be considered part of some petty console race because it is already far superior to the consoles. Not that I don't enjoy my console games, but god damn we've had so many threads like this and at this point I just flat out say it without doing some stupid pros and cons list.

Not really. The dramatic difference in price (the cheapest PC's sell for as much as a PS3, and you can bet you won't be playing top of the line games on said system) combined with the difference in general utility (PC's are used in most households/businesses for business/research/communication purposes.). If anything, the consoles are beginning to invade the domain of the PC, and I'm not entirely sure that's a direction I'm happy with.
