Can someone please explain to me why PC gamers and Console gamers can't get along?

I don't care really. Play what you want to play. But after playing MWF2 and BF:BC2 on PS3 and PC...The PC players are so much better. Its not just the quicker aim, they just play better.

Most of the time I don't care. I've tried to play games on a PC and I'm terrible at it. Unless it's the Diablo series or the Myth series. Pacing games that don't require lightening fast reflexes. Shooters though...ha. I died in the first minute of Half-Life 2 Episode 1 because I walked sideways off the cliff. I can't get the hang of a keyboard and mouse combo, so I play on a console.

It's when that one PC user feels the need to not only point out that his PC is better (which I admit, usually is) but he needs to insult consoles, people who play on consoles, and generally be a jerk while he claims he's simply stating the facts.

I think it might be similar to the reason Yahtzee posited as to why people get so passionate about which console they liked best. Nintendo or Sega, Xbox or Ps2, whatever- your parents were likely only going to buy you one and you had to choose. And if you chose poorly it was easier to rationalize it somehow rather then admitting to making a bad decision.
So people who buy games now can choose- Spend a bunch of money on a console and a lot of peripherals, or spend a bunch of money beefing up a computer for gaming. In the long run I think the first option is cheaper, but it limits who you get to play with. [Steam or XboX live for instance.]
But I'm still betting most people can't afford to do both, so it's easy to get emotionally invested.

For context I'm a console gamer. I'm good with computers but I've never had the cash to keep up with the newest models. I'm always fixing some poor clunker. Computer gaming rubbed me the wrong way early on. It seems like I was always missing some piece of hardware or software that made the game not work right. I just got sick of the aggravation. The last time I successfully loaded a computer game and got it to run right on the first try was playing Doom 2 on Windows 3.11 back in the 90's.

Well, because Consoler's like to argue with each other, then when their offline, they argue with PC owners, because both have an internet connection.

Console - Whiny people that argue amongst self as a majority, then regular people.

PC - People who respect one another, who joke about with each other, then a very SMALL people are trolls.

Its just that basic, for some reason, people on the PC side respect one another, while on console, everyone that is respectful does not have a mic, while every spoiled mother fucker HAS one and tries to be the L33EST ever. I just don't GET why, its just that way. Personally, I like ANY PC community over console community, because with the PC side, we don't HAVE to talk to communicate, allowing for people on a server to "Hush Up" anyone on the server whos being a dick, while on console, no one else [typically] who has a mic. care what the rest think, because their the only one that can voice their opinion, even when someone tries to hush them up, they just start to argue. I don't know why its this way, but it is for whatever reason.

GOD, is my computer THAT enhance? I haven't bought a new piece of hardware in several, well, YEARS! Damn, just DAAAAMMMMNNNNN!!!! I'm using Nvidia for clarification. I just think everyone is trying to get the lastest shit, instead of just finding one that WORKS, then using a commonly used gaming hardware [Nvidia, just THROWING it out there] then just building up whatever common place video / sound cards are needed, its not THAT hard to get a working build, nor expensive. Other then that, your argument is put WELL and I thourigly agree on it.

Wait, what? WHEN THE HELL DID YOU COME TO THAT CONCLUISION!? I have never heard ONE pc gamer [myself included] even MENTION a games graphics, have you BEEN on Xbox Live in the past year? Hell, have you even SHOWED a console gamer Minecraft, or a Snes or even NES title before? I remember showing a young friend of mine Super Mario Brothers, and he refused to play it, and then I showed a PC gamer it, and he played it and DAMN well liked it too.... God, I'm just mad because you made me spit out ice-cream.. Still, HOW DID YOU GET THAT CONCLUISION!?

Then it lacked relevance?

At OP:

I Have no idea, I personally just don't have enough cash to invest into PC's. However I have never ran into a community who had as much PC Elitism as this forum.

So, Kind of a new thing.

Oh. And I learned a lot of people evidently hate my country....

I'm a hybrid. I couldn't really tell you.
In a way, PC Gamers have made themselves very high and mighty, and made the console gamers seem like drooling baboons.
Console gamers have turned PC gamers into elitists that can't think of stooping so low so as to buy a console.
Take me and my brother. I'm now liking more and more the PC, but still sticking to my consoles because they're how I began gaming and still has a lot better exclusives IMHO. Whenever I try to persuade him to buy something on Steam instead of us getting the Xbox version, and the reasons why, he just says "Oh, that's the PC fascists/elitists talking". As always, we never see both sides of the tale, and so it's hard to clearly see behind all the mist.

Hmmm... not saying that all Console gamers are like this, but yeah, It just occurred to me. While PC gamers may seem elitist, we tend to bind very well together. Console gamers have got this internal elitism, but PC gamers have almost a racial elitism.

Also, PC gamer do not exclusively care about graphics. Building machines that can play things at full is more for the fun of building the machine itself rather than getting a hard on for the output. Thats what I love about PC gaming. The feeling that the gaming machine is yours, that you built.

Pretty much this. Take a bunch of random people off the street, place them on an isolated island and seperate them into two groups. Give one group long, thin sticks and the other group short, fat sticks. In one days time each group will be convinced that their sticks are superior to the other groups sticks. In two days time blood will be shed.

If you have bothered to read everything he wrote, he was making a point about how PCs never developed splitscreen because of their inherent networking capabilities, and that as consoles developed sufficent networking capabilities they too have begun to abandon splitscreen. It has nothing to do with PCs ruining your console games. As I already mentioned, the only big name multiplayer PC to Console port of the last year that I am aware of (Portal 2) supports splitscreen.

In other words, when you do console-centric design and port it to PC, you lose a lot. When you do it the other way around very little is lost.

EDIT: Also I'm pretty sure L4D2 was designed by PC-centric developers, and it too had splitscreen.

Can I live in your world? It sounds like a fun and magical place. Are there unicorns? Seriously, PC Gamers who think like this are like the XBox Live players who say "Oh, the rumors about Live are exaggerated".

As much as PC Gamers love to portray themselves as the great, amazing, pure, shining White Knights of gaming, there are plenty of hackers, homophobes and racists, loud and obnoxious people, annoying people, cheating or exploiting assholes, overly competitive raging people who scream into their headset, unfriendly "L33T, L2P and GTFO" players and so on. It's a universal problem, not limited to one online game, system or community.

OT:
People are assholes. Simple. There are plenty of reasonable console gamers, and plenty of PC gamers without their heads lodged firmly up their own ass. People just tend to remember the assholes more than the nice guys they meet. The guy calmly saying "Hey, GG, better luck next round." is a lot less memorable than the guy screaming at the top of his lungs "Fuck you n*****, I fucked you harder than I fucked your mom last night. That's what you get for using such a noob weapon, ya queer."

Is that why I've been called a Pyrofag, asked how long I've been gay, told I was a fucking shiteater, been told my mom was good in bed last night and had people describe how they're going to sodomise me on Team Fortress 2 on PC, yet on Killzone 3 I've had people listen about my day, shared some good jokes and been given encouraging advice?
I can answer this simply, one, shit server, two, those were people from consoles that hopped over to the PC for the game, theres nothing wrong with that. Good things CAN happen on online matches, its never a perfect stand, but communities AS wholes are very much differing from game to game or genre to genre or system too system. On consoles, I've always had shitty matches, where the things I described DID happen a large chunk of the time, while on the PC spectrum, I've had a bunch of fun times, with a little dick moments. Also, mute button people, save your ears from rape with it. The fact that you have to USE the mute button to begin with shows signs of bad. For some reason as well, PS3 seems to be more nice then Xbox owners. Maybe it has something to do with them not paying for a service?

Yep, you can, its a differing case by case thing, all my experiences online have been some kid yelling at me to do X thing that is Y glitch, but very cryptic OR to where someone one wouldn't shut the hell up and was bagging on about how he was carrying his team..... Until he realizes he has died the most times that WHOLE game and leaves. While on PC I have had a great time, the communities are WIDLY more accepting of what the hell your doing, and rather are nice, of course there ARE dicks. And those dicks can be just as irritating as console ones, but are MUCH more frequent. Just my experiences anyway. I've played PLENTY of games to where I didn't encounter a single shit, while I may have encountered a handful that are complete douches, and end up just being full of shit. Its not exactly limited, but seems to be less frequent, like I said in my original comment. Its more or less who gets the stage, on a PC game, everyone can chat, therefore, they can shut anyone up. While on console, its a single person talking, then tries to keep the stage while others zoom in for a spot up there.

]You're using confirmation bias. The agression to helpfulness ratio is exactly the same for both consoles and PC's. You just want to believe that PC's are soooo much better than consoles, so whenever there's a bunch of dickheads on PC, you make excuses like "its a shit server" and "he's totally a console gamer I bet despite him being on PC", and when there's good people on consoles, you ignore it.
Its the weirdest thing, I actually changed my statement there before you posted a reply, you can look at it, but its really weird, and again, its just from MY point of view, and I have played many games from Live online and PSN, mainly more on the PC. So you don't have to look, also, TF2 was your first complaint, "Pyrofag" and its FREE, so it could have very well been a console gamer checking the game out, or it could have been a granny, we NEVER will know, if it were a game that was only Buy 2 Play, then yeah, you COULD say that it was an excuse, but it IS a viable explanation. Counting that the games specs aren't that machine heavy, its very possible that someone was just curious into the game, and doesn't EXACTLY know how the game works. And, again, from MY point of view. And yes, there ARE shit servers, they exist, like matches. I experienced a better online experience on PSN over Live, then the best experiences I've had were on the PC. Consoles have some nice people, and there are more dicks then good guys I have met. I can gurantee I spent at least three days listening to people be dicks, and then about two days of people being respectful or quiet, then more dick, thats about what my ears heard for about a year of Live.

Because like all things, one side thinks they are better than the other.

Kinda like how non-Mac users mock my Mac, while I make fun of them.
