Hello. A few minutes ago I found an antique pocket watch. I'm wondering if it might be worth anything. any amatuer apraisers here?

There is an engraving that says "English make: guanteed to wear 10 years"

I'd keep it, it doesn't look like much, no ornate carvings other than the Roman numerals. And to be honest pocket watches are pretty badass. Unless it's absolutely ancient it doesn't seem like it would be worth much.

Keep it, and forever look awesome whenever someone asks you for the time.

Well, if you can find the maker's mark, you can determine the age and if the maker was famous. I doubt its worth much, it isn't very ornate. Though, I'm no authority on this.

The photos crap quality is misleading. There is some ornate details and the like engraved onto it here and there.

I'm no expert on geography but I don't think Lancashire is anywhere near Greece.
Also the company that made this was founded in 1889 and went bust in 1910 so it's at least 112 years old
Edit: so accirding to a website from a watch expert this is worth £60-£80. Should I sell?

I have a watch similar to that one. Except mine is worth a shitload more. Its got a beautiful mechanism, its working and most importantly it has its creator inscribed. James McCabe, London.

This case is similar but not the same. Also yes, that is real gold.

Let me tell youy something very simple about watches... there are 2 factors.
1) Quality
2) The Maker

Looking at your watch the quality is lower and newer.
Also if it has "English make: guanteed to wear 10 years" then its potential value has just plummeted. That suggests it was mass-produced, therefore not really an antique in the eyes of many... because there are shitloads them them exactly the same. That means that unless there is another signature or some detail you have missed, you're looking at £100-£200... most likely on the lower end of the figure.

Also guanteed is spelt incorrectly... is that your error or did the plank who incribed it spell it that way? If its spelt incorrectly then its value may actually go up if most of them are correctly inscribed.

At most mine is worth £2,000. And the inner case is made out of fucking gold and precious stones >.>
Yours? Don't bother, keep it :p
I'm keeping mine as its pretty and its a pocket watch... they are so bad ass.

Guanteed is spelt wrong. And thanks for the honesty. I knew my great grafather couldn't afford much on a butchers salary

Np. You could get more for it but you'd have to avoid any middlemen and sell it directly to the end buyer who'd paid... more for them. Middlemen like jewelers take a large lump sum of profit off of most items.

One of the things my dad does (in between alcoholic beverages) is fix clocks and most of the time the aristocracy has lots of clocks but not a great deal of cash, and will offer clocks or other antiques in exchange for repairs. However the value you buy them for and the price they can be sold for... its huge.

Also by the looks of it your ganddad did well... or at least looked after it a lot better xD
