Hi everyone, I find myself in need of a bit of information, see, the Playstation Store is having a horror sale that is still on for the next few days and The Walking Dead: Survival instinct is about half-price (I think)

I'm tempted, as I find myself in the mood for a zombie game, but it's a digital purchase at £25, so obviously if I don't like it I can't trade it in, and I'm stuck with having spent the money,

so can someone who played the game describe their experience to me as best they can so that I can make a more informed decision? that'd be great thanks

Haven't played it myself but from what I've seen of it it's a slow boring glitchy mess that steals ideas from better games and ruins them and any unique ideas are just plain bad.

Have you tried looking up a video review on Youtube?

Something like WTF is...?: The Walking Dead: Survival Instincts.

of course I thought of that but that would just be one guys opinion, my thinking at the time was that hopefully I'd come back to this thread a bit later and have a few different points of view to compare which I could've read in less time than watching a youtube video would've taken, also I was interested to see what people would say

I haven't played the game, but I've looked up multiple reviews of it and I have not seen a single person say a single good thing about the game.

At the moment the PC version of it sits at a 38 on metacritic, with a user score of 2.5, which should really tell you everything you need to know. Metacritic scores aren't everything, but when they're THAT low, you know something's seriously wrong.

Well the game looks awful, has major processing problems (I have a Titan in my machine and this game lagged constantly), the levels are far to linear, and you get almost no info on suvivors strengths and weaknesses.

However it had good ideas that were poorly executed or couldnt be done right because the dev didnt have the time to make it work right. You do scavenge for materials each time you stop and your route determines how much resources you expend while simultaneously determining how likely you'll be able to find supplies. So there are elements of an actual survival game in there

The story is...forgetable. I dont really care for the walking dead show so I didnt really care about the characters before I played the game. I still dont really care all that much after Ive played the game. It probably would have been much more impactful for me if I could have designed my own character rather then playing the walking dead show guy (cant think of his name off the top of my head)

My end conclusion is its a bad game due to the lack of time it was in development and while it had good ideas I really just consider it shovelware

I ran into a lot of bugs, primarily involving broken AI and getting stuck on the environment.

If you're looking for actual horror in a zombie/survival/horror game, you won't find any here. It's just too low a quality game to provide any genuine jump scares, dread, or paranoia about what's going to come around the next corner. Tack on repetitive and forgettable "enemies" and it gets stale fast.

The storyline is nothing special, and honestly, if you haven't played it yet, Telltale Games' Walking Dead series is damn near a masterpiece.

I've read a few reviews, and Yahtzee is the only person who says anything good about it. From what I can tell it's only worth playing if you don't mind awful graphics, bad framerate, terrible animation and backtracking. If you're a big fan of the TV Series it might help, but not by much.

Imagine a weekend FPS mod barely finished and put in a store... that would be this game, if you find appeal in that then by all means but I can only say you find free games that outclass this by far.

When I played it, melee autokills were your best attack, and all I did to win was press one button. That might be OK for some people, but the repetitiveness of it all just got driven home more by seeing the same five zombie faces close up with the same five kill animations.

In terms of quality and feel, it would be like if the N64 Goldeneye was released today. Goldeneye can hold up a bit on nostalgia and forgiveness for its age, but not as a new game in today's context.

I played it for a little while at a friend's house, they thought it was the Telltale game that everyone said was awesome and so bought it without realising it was a crappily made cash-in. It doesn't look great, the gameplay is repetative and it's really not fun at all to play on top of not being especially interesting considering the source material.

Conclusion, £25 is too much to pay for it. Spend it on something else, The Walking Dead season 2 for instance.

It really is a terrible game and was only made to cash in on the success of the series and (the more cynical part of me thinks) to also suck in some cash from people who thought they were buying the Telltale game (i borrowed it, i never paid for it, thank god).

And its a shame because if you look at it you can tell there were some designers who had genuinely good ideas but the powers that be wouldnt give them the time or resorces to do it.

Fitting then that Survival Instinct should be on the horror sale.
As others have recommended you could watch the WTF is on it, but I'd add the Two Best Friends Play of it and also the one from Bigirpall.
But yes, it's not worth it, if you'd like I'd say get it if it's under 10

I played it, and beat it, got my 1000 in it on a rental >.> it's a damn pain. Basically it's really short, and the game is an complete rush job. It had to be done and out on store shelves before a certain episode of the show so you have bad A.I., bad mechanics with sending the survivors for stuff while you do a mission, and a short dumb story that basically goes nowhere. Also it's funny and sad watching zombies attack doors and fences rather then you standing near them.

On top of that if you wanted all the achievements and unlocks you had to beat the game like 7 times, so at the end I was literally running through and by everything and beat like 10 levels in about an hour and you never really had to kill everything or do a bunch of the side missions.

But ya only if your a die hard fan of the show and know and don't mind your going into a horrible game should you ever even think of wasting the time on it.

I picked up State of Decay on Steam and while it is still being finished, it is a fine zombie survival game. I would look into that one. (It's on XBLA also)
