Who knows, with the advancements being made in solid-state technology, there might be a move back toward a small "cartridge" style format, say something like SD cards or SATA flash.
They're getting to be quite cheap for an obscenely large amount of memory, access speeds get better all the time, and they're rather flexible in the amount of storage they can contain.

Dunno, just pushing it out there as a potentiality...

Haha. I'm actually for the paper-thin part. I've moved three times in the last year and moving my bulky TV is a pain every time.
Well it might be handier to have a light tv when you moving, but I think I could accidentally rip my tv in half because it's so brittle.
I'd rather have a fat sturdy monster than a slim brittle paperweight.

I don't know anything about licenses or the like but I think if XBOX 720 (I assume)wants to stay competitive it has to upgrade to something better that what the 360 has, otherwise it's next gen will be previous gen.

I am surprised it got away with it this gen.

That'd be quite awesome actually. I could really get on board with that. Could save on packaging for the game boxes as well...

i don't think so, because they'd have to break contracts with the opposition of the Blu Ray, who are finishing their HD DVD stocks... and then maybe they could pass on a better technology.

Course it will.
Developers are already praising the amount of space on a BD over the DVD. Look at all the fuss with FFXIII.
The nextbox will have Blu-Ray. Guaranteed.

I am sure that it will do Blu-ray. Sony isn't the only producer of blu-ray players.
Um, they kinda are. It's their product. Other companies/brands produce blu-ray players for sale on the consumer, but the tech is licensed from Sony.
They'd still have to sell Blu-Ray players to MS if they asked, or else they'd get destroyed by U.S. Anti-Trust laws.

NO!

When will people get it through their heads; BLURAY IS BAD TECHNOLOGY.

Bluray has more space, yes. BUT ITS SLOWER. Hence why the PS3 Requires Downloads, and BluRay players take a minute or so to actually play.

Forcing players to download beats the entire point of console gaming. Bluray is not a leap in technology, its a crappy alternative thats expensive and harder to make.

It would be much wiser for Microsoft to either invest in the next format being conjured up (HoloDisks, as they are so SciFily called), DVD, or HDDVD

The "Blu-ray Disc founder group" was started on May 20, 2002 by MIT and nine leading electronic companies: Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG (Lucky GoldStar) Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung.

Microsoft has nothing to do with Bluray and would have to buy a license to use the technology which would essentially be giving money to Sony.

Xbox Bluray = Sony $$

A bluray player is not expensive.
That said, they should get at least some form of higher storage media, mass effect 2 had a lot of content axed due to the XBOX and its dvd limitations.

I bet Micro$oft buys blu-ray players as timed exclusives in the next gen consoles.

I doubt that Blu-Ray ever will be that big a thing when it comes to movies... The quality is not that much better then HD-DVD so frankly if you care, get a hobby..

With gaming however, I beileve they can use the large disc-space.
