I think there can be, but that could be just because I was listening to John Lennon while I created this topic.

I have the solution!

Dramatic tension.

Dramatic tension.

Corpses are very peaceful.

I wish there could be. But, it's pretty much human nature to fight over something. In my opinion, there will never be complete peace, the world may just be more peaceful then it is now.

When there is no life then there will be peace. Nobody wants that though.

As long as there are differences, there will be conflict, and as long as there is conflict, there can never be true peace. So, unless your happy with the idea of everyone being exactly the same (or dead), true peace isn't something you want.

I think we already answered that one above.

Tell us why you think there can be peace. (besides Lennon)

I think that to some degree, conflict is intrinsic to all life. Things live and die, and so long as that continues and we attach meaning and significance to those lives and deaths, we will fight.

Professor Wheato's predicted it, it shall be.

A little bit of peace would be nice... but if we ever get to the point where the world is filled with flowers and rainbows, I'll start my own war.

What the world needs is not "peace", in my opinion, but neutrality-- a magical combination of peace and conflict that sort of evens itself out.

Let me say that another way...

can there be peace on earth with humans alive and with differences?
Nope. Not a chance. Never.

So I speak to him and say to him: "Comrade, I did not want to kill you. If you jumped in here again, I would not do it, if you would be sensible too. But you were only an idea to me before, an abstraction that lived in my mind and called forth its appropriate response. It was that abstraction I stabbed. But now, for the first time, I see you are a man like me. I thought of your hand-grenades, of your bayonet, of your rifle; now I see your wife and your face and our fellowship. Forgive me, comrade. We always see it too late. Why do they never tell us that you are poor devils like us, that your mothers are just as anxious as ours, and that we have the same fear of death, and the same dying and the same agony ? forgive me, comrade; how could you be my enemy? If we threw away these rifles and this uniform you could be my brother, just like Kat and Albert. Take twenty years of my life, comrade, and stand up ? take more, for I do not know what I can even attempt to do with it now."

Sorry for the quote spam; I like the first, the second I found quite moving and as for the last...I couldn't pass up a chance to quote Orwell now could I?

As for my view? As much as I would love peace for all I am a realist and think that as long as man exists so will war.

really this is all about what school of thought you subscribe to. personally i believe that as long as humans can come to the conclusion that one person has any more or less of anything than another, because as long as that inequality exists, there will always be those who are willing to take from another by force.

The only route to true peace is to make everyone completely uniform, make everyone have exactly the same of everything, and at that point we cease to be human, so in short yeah, peace can't happen unless humans as a whole are eliminated, as far as im concerned we are a beautifully flawed existence.
