Yeah, there can be peace, but everything needs to die first.

As long as things continue to require other things to survive, there's always going to be violence.

edit: And is it just me or is it aggravating to see that Einstein quote repeated by at least 10 people on every sizeable war thread on every website that has threads?
Very aggravating. I hate to see an Einstein quote just because it was in CoD4. Maybe I'm just an elitist snob.

Maybe if I quote you that will get your attention.

Why do you think peace can exist? Besides John Lennon.
I think that there is barely a chance of peace. Maybe in a couple hundred years, but I don't know. I just want others to.

Why do you think that it might happen later down the line? What about humans do you think will allow them to possibly create peace?

Peace is to an extension love, and both of with are hard to extricate out of those who do not want to, Eg the Jaded, misanthropic, anger-filled, or socially 'damaged' due to horrific or traumatic experiences in their upbringing. It would take a monumental overhaul of human nature to alleviate the travesties, ignorance and injustice that humanity bestows upon itself on a daily basis, or strong motivations from many generations to change.
Only thereafter would absolute peace be possible.

As long as we are individuals, there will be conflict. Our best hope is to minimize the damage done by conflict.

This. It's possible to be peaceful and have differences, which is something many seem to not realize. You have friends with whom you disagree, but that doesn't ruin your friendship; thus, peace, even with differences. However, as long as there are countries with major differences, and people who don't agree on issues (re: abortion, to name ONE), and the plethora of problems that seem to plague our existence... Well, in our lifetimes, and our children's lifetimes, and our children's children's lifetimes... No.

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around!

Yeah peace is impossible!

(Round of applause for who ever names the song!)

If your the kind of person for whom the means always justify the ends, then just follow this simple step plan to total world peace:

1-Buy at least 50% of the worlds total nuclear bombs
2-Get a nuclear bomb shelter, (the less people you invite the better)
3-Launch them at everyone, everywhere, (there can't be conflict if you make all the survivors worship you as like a cult leader)
4-Realize that no one likes you
5-Realize how friendly that guns looking...
6-Kill all the cult members
7-Dance naked for the rest of your short lived life

someone please talk about this logically
If you wanted logic you should have put your beliefs and ideas in the original post.

That was what I was trying to get out of you with all the questions, but whatever.

how do you define peace? no countries fighting each other? no kids thinking ill of each other on the playground? no internal moral struggles?
do you REALLY want it? i mean sure, you say that, but think about it.
BORING BORING BORING BORING BORING. i can say boring some more if you like.

There can never be peace. Conflict is a fundamental flaw in the human character.

I find the words of Plato more pragmatic than John Lennon's:

"Only the dead have seen the end of war."

I'll have to think of something else now.

we could create a desert and call it peace.

and anyway are more important question is would you want peace? the newspapers in a utopia would be boring, and if people are at peace everyone has the same status (Or everyone is willing to except inferior status) and therefore no way of bettering yourself. You would always be the same, average. People are most happy when they are slightly more successful than their peer group. without this success and the the failures to go with it would people be happy or just apathetic?

but to answer your question peace need conflict to define it, and by defining peace conflict destroys it, there a whole ying/yang thing going on.

There's always the scorpion and the frog story. xD
The scorpion needed a ride across the river, and asked the frog to carry him. The frog was uncertain, but the scorpion assured him that he would not harm him for he could not swim and would die, or would not get to the other side.

On the way across the scorpion stung the frog. As the frog began to go numb, he asked why the scorpion had doomed them both. The scorpion replied "It's just in my nature"

And human beings are pretty much the same. (thanks plasmatizer :))
