Most of the time, the people who don't like something are the ones who complain loud and proud about it, whereas people who liked it just stay quiet and enjoy themselves. Also, people who were indifferent don't waste their time bellowing their opinions online.
This is why we no longer have the Mako imo (or the elevators in place of those awful loading screens) Because people who didn't mind didn't moan.

I hope to god the 40k MMO will have good vehicle sections, those are kinda important.
IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FAR FUTURE THERE IS ONLY WAR [small]and some vehicle sections.[/small]

Now to the point - i can recall a handful of "bad" vehicle sections, and many "tolerable" ones, but i can't really remember any i completely loved. And truth be told, i do not know how to make a basis of vehicle section truly enjoyable on it's own.

The driving part in crysis bugs me. It seems pointless and out of place in what is meant to be a stealth/free roam game where you get nano suits.. why they felt they had to put in that boring as hell tank section I don't know.

Gta4 driving wasn't AS bad as I expected it to be.. but not perfect..

Half life 2 driving was enjoyable.

The bike part in ff7 was pretty awesome

Other than that I feel that driving sections are usually forced in to try and add some varying gameplay.. like in red faction 2 and they tend to break the flow and become really tedious and boring.. we play through them in hope that it will soon end and in the odd chance that we begin to get into the flow of them they finish..

They are in a lot of games. Not in either Gears, though.
Uh... there was a driving section in Gears of War 1 (act II: Nightfall), that's for sure.
I know. And it sucked. Same with the one in Gears 2. I was saying that these sequences actually tend to be good. And then provided examples of ones that sucked.

Great vehicle sections, absolutely loved them.
Yea, I agree completely with this. Those were fucking-excellent driving sequences. Such as the tank.

Gawd, I loved that tank. And the helicopter scene was great fun
+1. Infact, the entire game was great. Loved the rally race.

I love the driving in Bad Company 2. The tank controls are great - non of this silly 1 control stick to move the entire tank. I think any game planning on putting tanks into it should take note - use the 2 triggers to control forwards/backwards movement, 1 stick for turret control etc. (That said, I have yet to master how to fly a helicopter...)

But - I would rather have a crap driving sections than have to put up with one of those awful "I'll drive, the player shoots" sections. No, I'll drive.

Nightfire and Everything or Nothing both had solid, enjoyable vehicle sections as part of the gameplay from the Bond series.

Vehicle sections generally fall into 2 types for me:
1.) The easy, clunky vehicle levels that are almost impossible to fail, but also impossible to enjoy.
2.) Levels that are tortorously difficult, but are close to being enjoyable and innovative enough to play.

Obviously, there are exceptions, but the vehicle sections always seem to be tacked on rather than a continuation of the story or advancement of gameplay.
