I can't help but feel like I can't walk into a thread nowadays without it being extremely hostile, in fact the overall state of this website seems to be a lot more tense than usual. I can't help but wonder to myself "isn't the point of video games to just have fun?" And yes, yes it is. Knowing this, I can't help but wonder how the Escapist has gotten to this point. Really going on to some of the threads that are up nowadays seem to produce more stress than enjoyment, and really when I go on to talk about video games I'm...really not looking to get stressed out, I'm looking to enjoy myself.

So let's talk about something nice for once, I like to think of one of George Carlin's older skits "thing we all have in common," let's all try to focus on things that we have in common here. We're all gamers, we all love the same medium, and we are NOT enemies. We all draw joy from the same place, from the very thing that has always been there for us...also I'm pretty sure most of us think that Twilight is utter shit.

Just calm down and let's just focus on what we've got in common for once.

We all have a common hatred of everything and everyone at everytime. So there is that.... and... we all have keyboards, because we're typing aren't we? We all also probably have a Monitor and a Computer Tower. Maybe even a computer desk... an electirical outlet most likely as well. But that's probably it.

Not all of us have a computer tower, I use for a laptop for example and I know a couple of users who primarily browse the Escapist on an iPad.

Maybe if some people don't get too bloody serious in certain topics (e.g the recent Jimquestion thread) then this place would be more peaceful.

As for having something in common, we all like music right? Don't cared the types but just music in general.

But anyway, I believe the problem stems from the crop of topics we've had here recently.
With so many clashing opinions on these touchy subjects, hostilities are bound to arise.

I guess you have a point there, though I'd like to think my thread is more "please calm down" and less "please grow the fuck up"
