i would love to see a good old vampire movie once again. i honestly miss Blade.
Sorry, stop, stop right there.

Blade was a bastardisation of the Vampire mythos. The only difference is that the Twilight vampire is more for the ladies, and the Blade vampire is more for the guys. "Day Walker?" Sunblock? Whatever. Fun action movie, bastardisation of the vampire mythos.

"good old" vampire movies go beyond recent vampire movies. I consider "Interview with a Vampire" closer to classic.

I'd actually like to defend the actors in the Twilight movies, or rather the first, because that's the only one I've seen. Sure, it seemed like they couldn't act to save their lives but there are several examples of relatively decent actors looking bad in terrible films. The most notable example of recent times would be the Star Wars prequels.

There's very little an actor or actress can do if the script is beyond terrible and the direction virtually non-existent.

Personally I don't care for Twilight, I didn't care for the Harry Potter stuff (which was arguably better prose) either but I'm fascinated by films and games that use magic and vampires and werevolves.

"Survival horror" has never really appealed to me and I can certainly see the escapism value in all kinds of fantastical settings and superpowers. As most people here are gamers, I don't think I need to explain this. The only kind of horror that appeals to me isn't really horror at all but rather comedy. Or action. Horror elements on the other hand I can appreciate. But then, I grew up watching Buffy, so what do I know.

Agreed

Personally i read, watched and loved Twillight, but vampires need to take back their stance in gore and action.

A film from Vampire Hunter D. or the Blood Books would definatly not go unwanted.

If you don't like sparkly vampires; don't watch sparkly vampires. Honestly, if you wanted to see 'good' vampires why don't you just go and watch a Blade film or any of the others probably going to be mentioned in this thread.

Blade vamps die if you poke them... or even have a bad breath!
I agree that vamps are supposed to be evil, but in blade they take on a role that should be given exclusively for goblins in the last level of a tower defense game. What happened to people longing for a Dracula who bit tens of people and infected a whole city with the plague until anyone staked it in its coffin! Twilight has softened you into thinking Blade is good compared.

Yeah, I totally agree. Through the Blade movies the vampires aren't the cunning, working in the shadows bastards that I'd like them to be. Most of them just run straight into Blade's sword and die. As you said, that's a mindless fucking goblin, not a proper vampire.

It used to be that vampires were aristocratic social beings who seduced chicks, drank their blood and made them theirs. Now its all about depressing looking johnny depp sparkle knockoffs that listen to fallout boy and eat animals

Even Buffy had better vampires than Twilight. They didn't sparkle in the light, they burned.
The Underworld vampires were awesome, just let down by the story in my opinion!

If a good producer and director get their hands on a vampire story built on the basis of sun=burning and humans=food then hopefully we will be alright. It's not too late to prove the Mayans wrong, they predicted vampires would sparkle and the world would end at 2012 because of this...

Meh, what is the definitive vampire anyway? That's like asking for the definitive super hero or werewolf...

If you like your vampires sparkly so be it. If you don't, don't trouble yourself with them. I frankly don't care what makes a vampire a vampire as long as I'm entertained. I like Interview with a vampire, Dracula: Dead and loving it, Blade and Chronos as much as I liked Twilight. I really don't care that they all presented a completley different kind of vampire. It'd get incredibly boring if they were all the same...

...But they sparkle. How can you resist such genius writing?
Even though I know it was a joke, it still made me gag.

'I'm holding out for a hero til the end of the night
and he's got to be pale and he's got to be cruel
and he's got to explode in the light.
I'm holding out for a hero.'

Actually, I think Buffy handled its vampires pretty well, and there was a broad range of them. There were the bloodsucking predators and the evil masterminds and the simple-minded minions. And then there was Angel and Spike (the latter was the superior character) who you could've been called subverted tropes but insted became tropes themselves. The problem with Twilight and the like is that they took Angel, wrote him badly, and forgot about the rest.

I agree with you on Underworld.

Dracula? Superman? I think you could call them definitive with ease, even if they aren't your preferred characters.

Yeah... I want Dracula back.

Even though I would like to see a real version ('stache, walking around in the sunlight, not even remotely sexy, no god damned seduction... he just breaks in... I think the one with Gary Oldman is the one that comes closest), I'd settle for ressurecting Bela Lugosi and having him fight Robert Pattinson to the death. Hell, I know who my money would be on in that fight.

Wait... that would be an awesome film! But since ressurection isn't possible (yet), I think Christopher Lee would be a decent substitute.
