Can we have subforums?

I didn't know where else to put it, there isn't a suggestions forum. This site is about video games, so whatever.

I'm seriously, seriously sick of not being able to find any threads I want because wRPG of the month is overshadowing all the genres of video game I care about. And I really don't care about them, I don't think I'm alone either. I didn't want to talk about Skyrim, and I don't want to talk about Mass Effect. It wouldn't be such a big deal if these threads were as common as all others. But we're completely flooded with them. It's hard to find a subject I care about in this mess of one single genre dominating all the discussion around here. A genre that happens to be one I'm less interested in than most video game genres. I probably waste over and hour of my life per day lately sifting through video game topics I don't care about.

So I propose a solution: Subforums.

Maybe one for wRPGs. Maybe one for PC gaming. But whatever subject it is and it's origins that seems to be cluttering up the entire site, we need to find a way for people to not have to sift through it so much. So that those of us that say, like to play Fighting games, or Scrolling shooters, or heck, even Terraria or Minecraft, don't have an impossible time to find a topic. And have to make a topic all the time.

I myself feel like I don't even want to post in other topics and just make my own. Because I can never find the topics I care about in the mess of topics that obsess over one single video game. So thus, subsections would come in handy. A lot of fora use them. Why not us?

Probably not but if every one of those members feels the need to post a thread of their own it's needed.

I don't think individual games deserve their own subforums, but there are some topics that could warrant one. I know there was some complaints over people getting warnings over threads that maybe don't have the structure for a discussion or maybe are just random, or hell, maybe even a photo thread.

Maybe there should just be a new Cancerous Discussion board, where all the duplicate, necromanced, and ME3 threads have to go. I think the number of subforums we have now is pretty optimal, just they get a bit clogged up when something major happens in the news, or when a big game gets released.

Great idea!
let's start by making a sub forum for games with a shitty ending so people can cock it up there.
Phew, that's a load of my chest. I really got annoyed by all the ME3 threads, as the topic starter describes it drowns all the other topics. Same thing with Skyrim. Apparently users need to make a topic about every bit of kit they found.

Maybe even just one for new and upcoming games, so that gaming discussion isn't clogged with hype/rage threads whenever a game is being hyped to hell, and subsequently fails to live up to everyone's expectations.

That sounds like a decent idea.

Maybe 1 or 2 extra for the by far most common threads, just to make the most trodden over ground have its own space, off the top of my head I can only think of sexuality as one but I don't think that would make a good subforum.

Is there enough members for this to work?
Enough members to make splitting work? Or topics that deviate from the trends?

I would say yes to both. There are millions of posts here. This is a fairly active site.

That could work, too.

Of course, it would leave the games that are new but not hyped enough to fend for themselves against that "one game" that is dominating all the topics. But I think it'd be better than nothing.

I like the sounds of that idea. Of course Topaz makes a good point:

Nah, I prefer the forums to be concentrated into the subforums we have now, rather than be spread out over a whole lot of new ones.

Having a large number of dead subforums looks terrible for a website (just look at WarCry for a good example of this).

I do like this idea though. Frankly I'm also a bit tired of Gaming Discussion being filled up with hate threads over the latest game or threads talking about how *insert subject of discussion here* is ruining gaming.
