Things are getting crazy in a hurry. Both the Extra Credits team (And by that I guess I mean James) and The Escapist (And by that I suppose I just mean this Alex fellow) are having an e-shouting match trying to look like the only reasonable one involved here. It's really very damn hard to figure out who is in the wrong when both stories are such stark contrasts, even moreso for the non-lawyers in the audience. What does seem obvious is that this is the result of poor communication.

In that spirit I'm going to avoid making any harsh judgements until some actual facts and proof come to light. The current trend of painting James as a lazy hipster or The Escapist as some kind of evil corporate overlord on shreds of "He-Said-She-Said" bull____ just does not make a lick of sense. So, for my part? No boycotts. No mud flinging. None of that.

I'm with you. Thank you for being the first person to look at this rationally. I think the initial reaction of rage was kind of justified because we only had the one perspective. Now that The Escapist has weighed in we all need to be more level headed. I for one side strongly with The Escapist, although I acknowledge their issues as well.

From what I know right now (based on input provided by several Escapist contributors, both past and present) I'm leaning toward the EC team on this one, but I'm not raging at the Escapist either. This site and this community have built up a lot of goodwill with me in the last 3 years, and I'm not ready to break out the torch and pitchfork a few mere hours after allegations are leveled, particularly with no stronger evidence on either side than what amounts to "You cheated!"; "Nuh-uh!".

Thankfully, both parties have agreed to release all of their correspondence to the public in a PDF sometime in the near future. Hopefully, this will provide us with some answers.

I certainly think there's a lot of misunderstandings on both sides, or at least I hope so. I highly doubt either side is starkly and objectively wrong. This is an extremely grey issue.

I'm just gonna wait around till everything is announced, and not rely on quick postings that keep being updated all from 11:00pm-(currently around 2am) on. It's gonna get sorted out, and not everyone is going to be happy. Right now is a lot of mud slinging, I think everyone should just cool it down and think about where we're going to be after this is done with

Count me in as well. I barely know what's going on and right now I'm waiting till the smoke clears and we have all the facts. As naive as it sounds I'm really hoping they can work out something at this point at all.

I'm trying to remain rational about this debacle until all the facts come out or at least more facts. Right now, it seems like neither the Escapist or EC really knows what's going on either, so how can I pass judgement yet? Still, I have a feeling this is going to get even uglier.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I'm sort of a little disappointed with both teams. Not really that much. I wouldn't want it to leave, but EC isn't why I was here in the first place.

I actually liked it initially, then found it a little to saccharine while not saying much that could actually be done other than consider philosophically.

Just wanted to say I'm liking that I'm not alone on this one. On at least some level I was expecting to be told to STFU in the first five posts.

It's given my optimism a healthy boost. Maybe Extra Credits and the Escapist will be able to come to some sort of agreement?
