Whatever has been going on, this can not have been good for the Escapist. I hope they don't get too much negative publicity that kills them.

Or something.

I see a lot of people comment that want to see "more facts" before giving their judgment. First of all, I wouldn't count on that. First party doesn't have to agree to the "facts" the second party will provide; It can boil down to the same old "yes, no, yes, no" as you've seen before. Secondly, the general opinion, or better yet, YOUR opinion isn't relevant and never was. Neither is the question "who is right and who isn't" in this situation. It will probably boil down to the "fact" that both parties made mistake anyway. Question should be what will be done next.

I'm here too. It's so confusing trying to figure out who's right without all the facts

I was all for mud flinging and ranting last night, but sleep, reading other peoples views and opinions, and a good long hard think has brought me to the conclusion that there is probably no real bad guy to point a finger to.

Damn you, real life, and your shades of grey! *shakes fist*

So yeah, I'm with you =)

Yet more stuff.
Would you two kindly take it outside? Your argument (which seems to stem mostly from conflicting personal opinions) really doesn't need to be aired out in the open. I'd like to suggest that you take it to PM, but better yet would be to drop it entirely.

I'm probably about to murder this quote, but Claire Wolfe, somebody who I disagree with on a political level, had a lot to say about getting along with people.

"Don't argue with people who disagree with you based on morals and values. Waste of time. You will convince no one and rile everyone, including yourself. Don't you have something better to do with your life?"

You do realize this is an internet forum, right? They are entirely built around the concept of discussing and arguing with people who disagree with you based on morals and values out in the open. That's the whole point.

For the record, not a bad thing at all to do. Exposing yourself to people who disagree with you is the way to keep an open mind. I can see how a libertarian would call that a waste of time, though. Since we're butchering quotes, there's this great interview with Stephen Fry where he explains how it took him a while to realize that Americans who invite you to their house for dinner and conversation do not expect you to disagree with them on politics (or anything else, for that matter) and consider it impolite for you to do that openly.
My main issue was that your argument didn't have much to do with the actual issue at hand anymore, but it doesn't matter. Seems to be over anyway.

I just don't care about EC, because I watched a few episodes and found them uninteresting.
I don't acually care about the result of this.

Things are getting crazy in a hurry. Both the Extra Credits team (And by that I guess I mean James) and The Escapist (And by that I suppose I just mean this Alex fellow) are having an e-shouting match trying to look like the only reasonable one involved here. It's really very damn hard to figure out who is in the wrong when both stories are such stark contrasts, even moreso for the non-lawyers in the audience. What does seem obvious is that this is the result of poor communication.

In that spirit I'm going to avoid making any harsh judgements until some actual facts and proof come to light. The current trend of painting James as a lazy hipster or The Escapist as some kind of evil corporate overlord on shreds of "He-Said-She-Said" bull____ just does not make a lick of sense. So, for my part? No boycotts. No mud flinging. None of that.

Who's with me on this one?

Join the "Let's Think This One Through, Guys" bandwagon today!
I just want every one to be happy, i don't care who's right or wrong in my opinion no ones in the wrong. This was supposed to help some one and now it become bitter i just wish we could all go-

"yeah we had our fight lets put it behind us here have the money for the prizes you gave us and thanks for paying us what you owe now lets donate the excess to charity and be friends".

I don't know why the escapist wants 75% and i don't know why extra credit's instantly decided to bring up the dept and ask for their ip back after such a happy occasion but it doesn't matter can't we just wipe the slate clean....:(

See, I think the legal system is a complete joke. So in light of that, at some point, you have to make a moral call. And as far as I see it, TE had massive arrears to EC and EC called them in, and not only did TE say no, but they also said "since you got so much charity money our debts to you are null and void (effectively using the charity money to pay their debts) but in the meantime, you still owe us for T-shirts"

Are you kidding me?

"Raises hand"

to me this sounds like what happens when people do not let lawyers write contracts.
If I had a penny for every time someone who doesnt understand law tries to draft a document or to interpret law, I would literally have a new car by now.

OT: From what I can tell yeah horrible communication. I'm gonna put my money on "There's something not being said that's important that they think isn't." just a hunch.

hard fact with this,

what we know now, is about all we will know. if the respective parties of this dispute are smart, no further details about this mishap will EVER be released again and we all will be left hanging for the epic conclusion.

the facts are that EC and the Escapist have parted ways under less then amicable circumstances, and we as fans have to make that extra bit of effort to get our EC fix while enjoying everything else.

Instead of trying to paint everyone with grey colors, how about we just say that James Portnow is a control-happy bastard and The Escapist are evil corporate overlords? From where I sit, that seems to fit better with the overall outcome of the situation; almost everyone losing.
