Can you really consider someone in a powersuit badass?

So I made the "Most Badass Video Game Character" thread and many people claimed Master Chief Samus etc.. but I honestly put them at the bottom of my list. Why? They are in a power suit that enhances their abilities to make them so invulnerable/'badass'. Someone like Big Boss/Solid Snake, Batman, Auron, Kratos (debatable) are badass because they do their thing with nothing but their own badassery (<----- made that word up) to completely own all that oppose them. to be fair they do have their weapons and such but they are usually facing a much stronger opponent. Ex. Snake vs tank, Batman vs Killer Croc/Bane, Auron (doesn't matter...), Kratos vs Legions of eemies and every God on Olympus + titans.....shirtless.

Do you agree? If not why?

Maybe they're badass for reasons other than being able to kill shit.

You shouldn't judge what other people consider badass.

I think what makes chief badass is his attitude. I have to agree with you on big boss.

It really depends on what you consider as badass.
Sometimes it is because of a characters attitude (Duke Nukem, Nathan Drake) or sometimes it is because of their ability to destroy entire armies with their ears before they've brushed their teeth in the morning (Doomguy, Gordon Freeman, Kratos)

Why not Samus? You try and kill things in space without power armour and we'll see how long you can survive the vacuum and toxic planets. Not wearing armour in these situations doesn't make you badass, it makes you a bloody moron.

Doesn't it depend? I mean, if everyone else is wearing a powersuit, or is 30 feet tall, or attacks in waves of 100 or more, then a powersuit is just the default option. Besides, can't you apply the same argument to anything? "Can you really consider someone with magic badass? Can you really consider someone with a minigun for an arm badass?" I mean yes, it would be pretty impressive if the Master Chief could beat an elite to death BEFORE his enchiefening, but he's hardly got an unfair advantage against a covenant armada. It is pretty possible for him to get fragged.

Maybe because it also takes courage to kill tons of things. Powersuits don't buy courage.

Ever seen Space Marines? They are in massive suits of power armor, and they're so badass they make Duke Nukem look like a wimp.
Plus, they have guns that shoot bullets that explode, not to mention as big as my fist (or so).

By the logic you're using, the biggest bad-ass around would be a 5 year old girl that can beat up grown men with the kind of build that Arnold Schwarzenegger is famous for...

(wait... I'm seeing the plot to about 20 different anime series now... XD)

So, careful what you wish for really.

Thing is, your argument implies that the definition of a bad-ass is someone who can fight, and defeat, something that should be well out of their league.

Technology doesn't change anything unless is gives you an obvious, and overwhelming advantage over someone in the same context who does not.

Samus and the Master Chief for instance, are both powerful, but neither is really that strong in context of the kind of things they fight against.

Being in a mask alone gives courage, let alone a suit of armour.

Real men fight in the Imperial Guard! Space Marines are nothing but pussies in heavy armor!

Well, in that light, Mario's pretty badass because, as a hefty plumber, he can do better-than-Olympic-grade jumps, breathe in space, assumedly going without breathing for an unlimited amount of time underwater, and still hold it together in the face of a fire-breathing turtle-lizard-dinosaur thing that consistently steals his woman and can stand in lava. But he's usually not on the list of most badass characters, so it's all relative. Just depends if we define badass to be doing what has to be done, despite the near-insurmountable odds, or badass in that hyper-masculine shooting everything that moves and giggling like a little boy at the puddle of goop that used to be an enemy sort of way.

Samus throws down with monsters multiple times her size and the Chief fought enemies that were not only physically stronger but had their own power suits. Although there's nothing too bad-ass about mowing through a group of grunts I'll give you that.

Going by that logic, having any kind of advantage makes you less "badass". I don't like using that word...
You could argue that Sephiroth is only as cool as he is because he's got a 700 foot sword to back him up. Sticking to the theory, the most "badass" person in the world would probably be some wrestler who's long abandoned the need for clothes.

Feel the need to point out I don't think Sephiroth's cool, I think he's a knobhead. He was just an example.

Kratos had his powers enhanced by a god and Snake is all about stealth, while I would not consider Batman a badass, but his enemies are badasses. In addition, the Chief was a badass [i/]before[/i] he got the armor.
