Red Dead Redemption is a good pick. One of my all time favourites on the Xbox. Or Batman: Arkham City, another favourite.

If you want an experience similar to the games you listed, you must try Bastion. It's an indie game, but it's fucking excellence from start to finish in both gameplay and storytelling. It's like a tripple-A developer moved their whole budget from unneccesary lengthening and diluding their RPG to just making an 8-hour super-concentrated barrel of fun and awe.

Story is touching and engaging, art is beautiful and fresh, music is fantastic, combat design is really fun, it's gimmicks (including the famous narrator) work really well. It's only flaw is that the enemy design is not on par with the rest of the game by being simply average instead of awestriking.

Well the most recent game I completed was Catherine. IT was a lot of fun, but it's probably not to everyones taste. Kingdom of Amalur is one, maybe Skyrim?

I'm pretty sure the majority of computers won't be able to run it at a playable framerate even at the lowest settings, unless it's actually been built specifically for gaming. You need a pretty decent graphics card in order to get the game to run.

The minimum specs for the game are a lie btw, if you just barely meet the minimum requirements the game will run, but only at about 10 fps.
Oh, the average PC would be fucked :p But he does mention having a PC in the OP and he is asking for games, so I think it's reasonable to assume it's at least a serviceable gaming rig. I only have a 550 Ti, but I get pretty high framerates as long as I don't crank the settings too much. It's even possible to play it on ultra (with ubersampling off) and maintain high framerates (around 60, except for some fairly DOF-intensive cutscenes) if I turn the resolution down to 1280 x 720.

I agree that, if he only hits the minimum settings (or just prefers it :p), he should definitely get it on the 360. There are videos on Youtube of people running it on OK settings on an 8800GT at 1280 x 720 with decent framerates, too... but apparently those framerates aren't that consistent, especially in cutscenes. Not to mention, you can't always trust that these videos are accurate; I often see people claiming to be running BF3 on ultra, 1080p on my video card with 60+ framerates. Yeah, that's not gonna happen :']

I imagine that, with an 8800 at minimum settings with that resolution, the whole game would be fine but, of course, there's no guarantee of that and the 360 is a much safer option.

OT: You might enjoy Lone Survivor. It has an incredibly low, unchangeable resolution which is annoying, but it's a fantastic game with a fascinating plot. Basically, it's a 2D survival horror with a similar tone to Silent Hill, but much more survival oriented gameplay. Hunting for food, resources, etc. It's not particularly scary, but it's very tense and very engrossing. It's not particularly long, either, but it's very replayable due to how differently some things play out depending on your playstyle.

I see no mention of Skyrim or Mass Effect and since you seem to be fond of RPGs i'd go with them.

The OP seems to like 3rd person Hack & Slashers / shooters. I can't seem to get enough of them latley myself since finally getting a 360 a year ago after been a PC only gamer for a decade. (Those games are practically nonexistant on PC)

Story + Gameplay
Elshaddia (I think this should be your next purchase)
Nier
Deadly Premonition
EDITED MISTAKE Kingdoms of Amalur
(i'm not too far into playing this one atm, it's ok but it has that problem with it's quest system that tend to plague WRPGs, ie too many characters with ! above their heads, with some missions in other areas where you'll pass multiple ! along the way, don't like the music too, reminds me of Fable too much)

Gameplay
Binary Domain
Bayonetta
Ninja Gaiden Black & 2
Space Marine 40K (get this 2nd)
Vanquish (3rd)
Dark Souls

Also Possilbly
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Shadows of the Damned

Also, I'm considering getting Orcs must die 2, any thoughts?
If you want to play Orcs Must Die but won't play it co-op I suggest buying the first game, not the second. The second game is very much a co-op experience to the degree that all the levels are built for two. The first game is visually and gameplaywise the same, but much cheaper and made to be fun for one person.

Edit: You should also play Fallout 2 if you liked 1,3 and NV. Fallout 2 is my favorite in the series.

Edit 2: Have you played the Assassin's Creed series? If not, you should. If you pick up the first game, try to get the Director's Cut version. The series is well-written and has pretty fun parkour gamplay.

Assassins creed/2 are good choices for something thats got a good story (at least i think so) and good gameplay - I personally loved all of the games (including the somewhat bemoaned Brotherhood and Revelations) Its just a really different setting for a sandbox game and the story is quite epic too.

Witcher 2 would be a good call for an RPG - although it can be pretty grim and depressing at times. If they havent released the enhanced edition (or whatever theyre calling it) id wait for that though before playing it as thats probably going to make the whole thing better. At least with the original witcher the enhanced edition took it from a B+ to an A (imho).

Just Cause 2 if youre in the mood for some sandboxy kickass-ing. No story to speak of but I cant remember the last time I had so much in a sandbox just blowing shit up.

Mass effect/2/3 has both good story and gameplay.

If youve never played Crysis Warhead that might be something too - not really an RPG but its a much more cinematic experience than any other FPS single player games ive played. Damn good score as well - composed by Hans Zimmer If I remember right.

Oh and Spec Ops: The Line is quite fun - plays well and its got an interesting enough story too - although of course it does revolve around shooting people in the face.

here's a couple;

sleeping dog's is a huge ammount of fun, decent story and good mix of other games gamplay. its in the vein of GTA 4. some people think it has control issues but i don't see them on PC.

Deus Ex HR is ammazing, espically if you can find it and its DLC on sale (missing link is DLC done right, it expnads an already complete story)

skyrim is so so, if you do get it, you MUST get it on PC, its most redeming feature is mods, and xbox dosn't have them

Just Cause 2 is worth a look as well, no story that i can rember (where there nukes?) but the sand box feel is cool, worth the $5 it now costs

Well, first off, if you liked Alan Wake, then I recommend Alan Wake's American Nightmare as well. Gameplay's largely the same, the tone is a bit different though. It's made to feel like one of those "Night Springs" mystery show episodes you find on the TV's in the first game. It's kind of a continuation from the first game's story and features Poets Of The Fall as the Old Gods Of Asgard.

Then there's of course Mass Effect if you're into that - the gameplay handles a bit like a 3rd person shooter in combat and has loads and loads of great characters, an awesome soundtrack and great writing from the start. Sadly, that doesn't last until the end, but even though I'm one of those who didn't like the ending, to me the game is still worth replaying over and over again - fifteen minutes of bad writing won't spoil the whole thing for me.

If you played Dragon Age: Origins, I'd recommend Dragon Age II as wel. I know there's plenty of people around here who will tell you not to, but the game really has grown on me, and in some ways I even find it superior to Origins. Read a few reviews, though, since you might well have the same issues with the game as all the others out there...

At the moment I'm having a hoot and a half with Sleeping Dogs, which I picked up after Gavin Dunne flooded his twitter account with messages about how awesome it supposedly - an undercover cop story set in Hongkong that features fluid, intuitive hand-to-hand combat and, to a lesser extent, gunplay (which I couldn't warm up to, but so far I did only need to pick up a gun on three or four occasions), a driving mechanic reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto, several minigames for hacking, lockbreaking, karaoke and collectibles all over the beautifully designed sandbox city. As for vehicle sections you got races, the occasional car chase and, indeed, car theft and can choose from a variety of bikes, cars and boats. As I said, I'm just barely into the main story and it's already a lot of fun.

Wow, getting a lot more replies here than I anticipated actually, I really appreciate it.

So far I've put these suggestions on my to-play list:
Spec Ops: The Line
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Darksiders 2
Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Arkham City (that's the newest right?)
Fall of Cybertron

I also wanted to mention that a lot of the games being mentioned (Bastion, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect, DA2, The Witcher 2 etc) I already own and/or completed, the OP was just to hint a tone for what I like. Thanks though, seems you definitely took out the right genres from that!

Also to the post about The Witcher 2 on PC, my rig is up to it, though not on max. It was built top-of-the-line about a year ago. Also I have the Enhanced Ed. on Xbox and enjoying the hell out of it!
