Yep, playthrough. Stupid iPhone auto correct.

Back OT - I think the oldest games I can replay are from the Amiga 500 era. Haven't tried playing anything older than that, but I think that could be pushing it.

A lot of the posts have already mentioned some of the games I replay. But, the reality is, a lot of games provide a good enough experience to warrant a replay.

I can't count how many times I have gone through Betrayal at Krondor (one of my favorite RPGs ever) or the first 2 Fallout games, Baldur's Gate series and Quest for Glory games. All still fun and, in a lot of ways, the familiarity is what appeals. Its like being able to revisit a favorite holiday spot or catch-up with old friends.

Depends on the game really. I can't stand to replay some of my other games, but I'd gladly replay Persona 3 and Freespace 2 forever.
I admire your mental endurance for being willing to replay Persona 3. I could if I gave it lots of time, but knowing what a trek that was after beating Nyx for the first time, it will take awhile for me to muster the courage to tackle it again.

Oh yeah, I'd definitely do that. The best part of replaying games from your childhood is how you've mentally matured and can now make calculated decisions, where you were just blindly flailing about as a child. It's so satisfying to see how much easier previously frustrating games can be. I just aced Mickey Mouse's "Magical Quest" a week ago. With an adult's mentality, it was a cakewalk.

I can replay them easily, I know how they work so I don't have to learn anything new and yet I can still explore new areas and experiment with different things so I'm not doing the exact same thing again. My problem is playing the new games since I'm having such a blast with my old ones.

Depends on the game...I tried to go back and play morrowind a few weeks back but I just couldn't get into it again. Which is really a shame.

Sure I guess. I go back and soak myself in MGS2 and 3 every so often, I bought a new copy of Jet Set Radio Future recently and I've been getting mad buggy over wanting to play SotC some more. Hell I'm replaying FFTA right now (and rediscovering how much is wrong with it).
I can't replay Cave Story cause I did it no less than a million times and I can't replay any stock Final Fantasy cause they all suck but other than that yes
yes I can replay old games

I regularly replay many of my old games. I would even go as far as saying that most of my gaming time was spent in older games over the last few years.

I generally play the Baldur's Gate series on a yearly basis, as well as Warcraft 2 and 3 and some older Star Wars games (Jedi Knight series, TIE Fighter, KotOR series). I also keep Neverwinter Nights (1) and Morrowind installed and play them every once in a while. I've been known to occasionally play through some SNES and N64 games as well, mostly Zelda and Mario.

Yup, and I do that every now and then.

I finished playing Super Mario Land 2 on the Gameboy after watching a Game Grumps episode and forgot I owned it. It's such a weird little, but the music is still pretty awesome. :D

Although, I'm replaying the first Suikoden at my leisure and holy hell does that game hurt my eyes, but I still love playing it though.

I quite regularly play through some of my older games (most recently when I went without internet for around 3 weeks. I beat Dark Cloud 1&2, Kingdom Hearts 2, Suikoden 3, and was working my way through all 7 .Hack games before I got the internet and access to my Steam library again. I also replay both KotoR games at least every year or so.

Albeit I should have spent that time working on my backlog of games from the PS1 era but I didn't (seriously, I'll never finish all my games at this rate Q_Q)

I stopped counting my playthroughs of Ocarina of Time at 712, years ago. Essentially every game I've ever owned, I still do, and replay them constantly.

It takes a lot for me to get rid of a game.

I always replay games.

I've been through Pokemon Platinum and Pokemon White at least 10 times each. Ratchet and Clank games have a "challenge mode" which is basically playing the game through again with stronger enemies and weapons, and I do that every time I go back to the games. Once I finished ME3, I started playing through ME1 again and worked my way through the trilogy a second time.

I have no problem replaying games, and I don't know why anyone would. If the gameplay is solid, it shouldn't matter whether you've already experienced the story. I prefer to play a game until it gets boring, not until the game tells me it's over.

You're not alone, OP.

I cannot bring myself to replay single player content. I have a hard time even trying to get new endings. I do not like trudging through bits I have already experienced to reach new content.

I have the same reasoning. I play for surprises and new challenges.

I'm usually lucky to finish a game the first time. If I play through the campaign more than once, it usually means that it's got a /really/ short campaign with a lot of replayability, and by really short I mean two hours, three or four hours tops. If it's more than ten hours, it has to be exceptionally good for me to finish it the first time.

That said, I'm slowly but surely replaying Final Fantasy VII at the moment, and I intend to go back through the Zone of the Enders and Metal Gear Solid games at some point in the near future. However, it's been the better part of a decade since I've played any of those -- probably over a decade since I got to the final dungeon of FFVII and my little sister deleted my only save file. Boy was a harsh lesson learned that day. Point being, it takes a long time before I'm really interested in replaying something, if I ever am.
You worded that better than I could ever do. This, all this.

I can replay my games , but not right after having completed it. I need a minumum of two years before i can do a second playthrough of any game . I tend to most play jrpgs , and my backlog is so huge i don't even need to replay a game . Ever . But i keep al my games . And when i am old and retired, i intend to replay ALL OF THEM .

For some reson i thought this was going to be a " i can't reply my old games because of graphics " thread .
Glad I dodged that one! Whew!
Jk, nah, personally, I don't give a crap about graphics even nowadays. If well executed, the last thing I'll worry about in a game will be graphics (See: Minecraft).

And yeah, I'll agree. Even though I don't like replaying games that I probably beat about 5 or 10 years ago, I don't like getting rid of them. I picture my old self playing with my SNES and PS1 and such, telling my grandkids about those times when you used to play games with your hands and them laughing at me and my dated technology.
That or I still won't play my old games because I'll be busy playing my PS14.

I'll just write about RPGs, otherwise my post would become even longer.

I have a hard time replaying RPGs because I've already been grinding for hours and hours, and I don't want to do it again. Combat isn't good enough to inspire another playthrough. Also, most game stories don't manage to surpass mediocrity outside of a handful of really memorable moments. But the biggest reason for story not being worth another playthrough is it's d r a g g e d out. Way too much mediocre combat to string together cruelly small chunks of story. Awesome characters can save an RPG, but they still suffer from the same problems stories have of strung out and brief moments to shine. Reaching yet another mining town with a monster problem in the breadwinning mine sure kills my motivation as well.

My most replayed RPG is probably Super Mario RPG (still only about 3 full playthroughs and a half dozen partials), because it addressed both those concerns: Timed blocking and striking single handedly made the combat SO much more fun. The story isn't mercilessly strung out; the game is a good length and the story is charming. The characters are adorable and have a fair amount of time to shine because once again, the story isn't strung out.

Mario is kind of an exception though, I really have a hard time maintaining interest in RPGs long enough to finish them, much less replay them:
-Star Ocean: The Second Story: one completion, one 50%. (This mixed in positioning and ARPG combat with traditional combat, that helped a lot)
-Final Fantasy 10: one 60%, one 95%.
-Final Fantasy 8: three or four 50-75%.
-Final Fantasy 7: one 10%, one 30%, one 90%.
-Star Ocean: Till the End of Time: two 80%.
-Breath of Fire III: one 40%
-Persona 3: 10%, Tartarus is SO boring. Why randomly generate your dungeons!? I hate Tarturus; if you could skip those parts and just do the social stuff, I'd do it! No, I don't think the weakness knock over 1 more mechanic is enough to make the combat not boring. I'm sorry, I wish I liked the game, I keep trying but it's so painful. I could stomach this combat when I was younger, but I'm so tired of it now. On the other hand, I completed Cthulhu Saves the World, why am I so flippy floppy?

I don't replay, but I do tend to play through the beginnings of some games quite a lot. For example, I love the first 2 hours of Half Life and Half Life 2 :p (have never beaten the former, and have only once finished the latter).

I do have a high tolerance for certain varieties of repetition though, just not traditional-ish RPG fighting. (The original) Fable's combat was always fun for me, even if it is repetitive too. I also like RPG combat that's like Baulder's Gate or Final Fantasy Tactics. Just can't stand the traditional style.

I replay old stuff almost constantly. Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 1 and 2, KOTOR, the Halo games, Oblivion. Still great games that still provide me with enjoyment every time.

Alot of games I can replay yes but I enjoy them alot less, the first time playing through a game is always the best. But GTA 4 I've played through quite a few times for example, chasing that first-time-play-high.

So I guess in a sense games are similar to smack....

I'd best go tell the media!

Yes I can still play them I just need to be in the mood for the game type.

I still play, Gothic 3, Dungeon Keeper, KOTOR 1 and 2, VTM:B, Thief 2, Risen and Bloodrayne. I would play Perfect Dark more but it is on my 360 and it is an old one that heats up my room and I am too lazy to plug in my N64.

Right there with you! And I have yet to play as all six Clans. Seems like the gameplay experience varies slightly with each one.

Hate the werewolf "Scene" though...that's just a grind.
That is because malkavian is all you need.

On a regular basis I dust off my old Super Nintendo and play through Super Metroid. I'll still play through Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and Link to the Past.

The only reason my Gamecube is still plugged in is because I have the Megaman Anniversary collection.

However, these are all games from my childhood and they have a certain nostalgia to them that I can't ignore. If I look to my recent collection...of the maybe 120+ PS2, gamecube and Xbox games I own. Maybe whittling that number down to 100 games that you can "beat" (instead of puzzle, games, beat rhythm games or fighting games) I'd say there's really only maybe 10 or 15 titles that I ever played through multiple times.

That's not to say the other games weren't good they just never stand out as anything I "need" to play again.
