I happen to think you can. Not like as in, say, make a cardboard cut out and take to the movies like, I mean a like where you enjoy it when they come on screen. Like Barney off Half Life. He was a likeable NPC.

My measure of a likeable NPC is when you get irritated when they get shot. In some games when a NPC I like gets killed I say screw shooting the enemy and I run up and punch em in the face.

Do you think that NPCs are or could ever be likeable? Why not? Which ones have you liked in the past?

Sorry for all the questions.

Actually almost every NCP in Half Life 2 should have a hug, Alyx,Eli,Kliener and they are all cute apart from the "rebels" in the full length HL2 who are MEAT SHIELDS

Also for some reason the NCP's in Saints Row 2 somehow seem cool (Based on my LOL experiences when they find rocket launchers ETC)

Fawkes from Fallout 3 was very handy too and fun as she went crazy over...cockroaches(Though she stole a lot of my Kills)

I think NPC's can be very easily likeable. I myself have found myself attached to Baurus and Jauffre(Of TESIV:Oblivion), Gaz (Of CoD:4) and Amata(Of Fallout 3). These four were very likable, and I was annoyed when they died(or were cut off from me in Amata's case}.

Can you like anyone besides the main character in a movie? Of course! So why shouldn't you be able to like an NPC?

Companion cube like what Freakout said. God. . . I miss it.
If you miss it so much, why did you put it in the incinerator? Seems pretty contrived to me. I didn't kill mine, and I have no idea what the rest of the game is like. Just me and my companion cube, hangin' out in this little white-walled room.

Either you need spelling lessons or you're trying to be funny. And I don't know which is worse.

I just thought of another NPC I quite like: Xana off of Dark Messiah. Even though most of her lines are sexual innuendos.

I liked Martin in Oblivion to the point that I missed interacting with him when the campaign was over. I remember being attached to several characters in games like Strike Commander, but no others leap to mind right now. If they're well written, people will like them as much as any other fictional character.

Yes, you can. I didn't know that you couldn't.
Well if you play games where most of the NPCs are morons that simply jump infront of you when you're shooting then complain at you then you may begin to hate them.
