B. Carmine. He was the only real person from Gears of War 2. He wasn't a giant monster thing like everyone else and he had a very realistic approach to what was going on. If you were fighting alien things underground, you would probably act just like Carmine.

I liked Sir Roderick Ponce Von Fontlebottom The Magnificent Bastard, The Black Whirlwind and Qui the Promoter from Jade Empire.

I also liked Barnum from Fable 2.

I find funny characters, especially ones voiced by talented and likeable voice actors...likeable.

I happen to think you can. Not like as in, say, make a cardboard cut out and take to the movies like, I mean a like where you enjoy it when they come on screen. Like Barney off Half Life. He was a likeable NPC.

My measure of a likeable NPC is when you get irritated when they get shot. In some games when a NPC I like gets killed I say screw shooting the enemy and I run up and punch em in the face.

Do you think that NPCs are or could ever be likeable? Why not? Which ones have you liked in the past?

Sorry for all the questions.

What's so great about Dogmeat? I found him useless. In fact, I went ahead and put him out of his own useless misery with a hunting rifle.

Are we forgetting HK-47 from Knights of the Old Republic? Someone I can see eye to eye with in a philosophical way and a very loyal friend-like slave assassin droid. Most of the NPC from Knights of the Old Republic were very like-able... well except for the wookie.
Yea I hated that wookie...all that garbled yelling, and inability to wear armor.

But I have to agree that HK-47 was one of the most likable characters Ive ever seen, he just had this sort of Bad-ass quality around him while being sophisticated and impudent (also he was a fucking robot), and he taught me a new insult "Meatbag".

Edit: Well actually Id heard the phrase Meatbag before that, but it had a sexual meaning to it.

Definately the NPC I've hated to see die the most.

I would always reload my game no matter how far back I had to go, just so I didnt have to live with the trauma of that loss.
Seconded, that's why I send him to Vault 101 so he wouldn't get killed during my always ncesserangly violent travels. I rather be alone then see that cute face get killed!

Other then that, I really grew attachted to the Oracle tribe in WoW. They're bassicly little gremlin type guys, so naïve, there dialogue so worked out well, constantly under siege. They're just so sad and cute, I did there daily's just so I could hélp them!

With games becoming more advanced in recent years and more emphasis being placed on storyline and character development its becoming a lot easier to emphasise with the lot of the major NPC characters than it has in previous years.
That said, one of my favorites was Reno from FFVII. Ahhh Reno, he didn't care about the dress code of the turks at all, and they still had him as a member of one of their elite fighting groups

I loved Charon!
...well, not LOVED, ghouls don't work that way.
Yeah, Charon was cool. So cool that I began pronouncing his name car-on, rather than Sharon, because it sounds better. Dogmeat was good too. As was Amata.

GAZ!

I loved you Gaz

And then you went and died on me..:(
Yeah, Gaz was awesome. DAMN YOU ZAKHAEV!

Anyone else get really attached to the NPCs in Mass Effect? I loved them all except Kaiden, but especially Nihlus (see avatar. He was cool even though he was only around for like, 5 minutes) and Tali.

Of course, the HL2 NPCs go without saying.

Wadsworth, your trusty Robot Butler in Fallout 3.
The only killable thing in that game that I didn't have the heart to shoot.

The group from the dark botherhood,it was hard killing them a second time when i knew none of them was a spy that spoiler is for the Dark Brotherhood in TES:IV. I loved Henpecked Hou from Jade empire it justhad somne great moments. Also loved Slyvia from No more Heros, she was sexy and she knew it and she teased travis mercilessly. Some of the assains such as Holly summers and Dr.Peace were just so awesome i felt sorry I had to kill them.

I think NPC's can be very easily likeable. I myself have found myself attached to Baurus and Jauffre(Of TESIV:Oblivion), Gaz (Of CoD:4) and Amata(Of Fallout 3). These four were very likable, and I was annoyed when they died(or were cut off from me in Amata's case}.
huh, I remember Amata dying... I distinctly remember eating her too.

Middle choice ftw! Gotta have someone to play catch with ;D
No no. Third choice for the win. Gotta be able to buy him a house big enough to play fetch in.

Bah! Barney...the cheapskate never got around to buying me that beer... :p

Another awesome NPC would be Holiday from F.E.A.R "He might be a pro...but i'm the MASTER"

My most hated would probably be Ashley from RE4...every time I hear "Leon! Help!" I cringe :p
