Lots of movies have been turned into games like the new Prince of Persia game but can you do the same thing with a book? And if you can what book would you like to see as a GOOD game?

Black magician trilogy - Trudi canavan. I think that could be quite cool. Probably more as a tv series than a game though :S.

Any of the Sharpe series would be awesome, but seeing as they usually have one major battle and some minor ones, it may be a little hard. Maybe they could do the first three or something?

That said, the movie based on it took a steaming dump on the story, some I'd be weary of a game.

It has been done. One of the first games I played in the 80s was an adventure game based on The Hobbit.

Maybe I would like to see more game developer making games inspired by some non fiction. Like science, philosophy or anthropology or something. There are already plenty of games based on military history. I'm reading a book called "Kinds of Minds" at the moment about conciousness which could be an inspiration.

It's more than possible, depending on the book. It's even been done before. Metro 2033 was based on a book, for instance. One of the first classic RTS games was based on Frank Herbert's Dune books.

Personally, I'd love to see Bioware or Square Enix tackle Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. That would be awesome either way: both companies would take a different value to it, but either would be amazing.

I think Michael Crichton's "Prey" could have been a good game. Kind of similar to alan wake, except way more fucked up and loosely based on actual facts.

There were a few Lotr games some time back. Sure the games were based of the movies, but they're still based of the books.

Yes but they were realised at the time after the films to capitalise on the film sales, id like to see a game developed due to a succesful book.

Metro 2033 did, and that game was awesome.

From what I've heard, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl did it too and that game was awesome... -er

Uhm, yeah, then I'm blank.

I'm sure it could have been done. You know, potentially (Guy above me says Metro 2033 did it), but with a movie you've already got the character design and action sequences all mapped out. It saves you some effort.

I'd say that, since reading most of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series feels like a unbearable grind quest as it is, they'd easily make the transition into some form of RPG...except it looks like Obsidian and Red Eagle are already three steps ahead of me. (And it'll be an MMO, no less.) Legend put out an FPS based on the books back in 1999 but, thanks to Quake III, it quickly sank into the waters of Lethe. Which is a shame. Any ol' Space Marine can shoot an enemy in the face, but swapping places with a charging opponent, freezing them in place, and zapping them with ball lightning that retroactively erases them from existence...that takes real magic, man. Magic.

The Hunger Games. Set it up like Shadow of the Colossus but have enemies running around the bleak, giant map with no organization. Just trees, tasty animals and hard-to-find-but-essential water. The game centers on hunting and gathering and the occasional human enemy. Set up all the parts outside the arena in a Mass Effect style dialogue sequence between cutscenes.
