This may be offensive but only Canadians could confuse the zapper with an actual gun. The rest of us have seen real ones before even if they were only on TV.

.... OMG this is what BL2 needs! a zapper! its orange so it will shoot fire!

How silly, banning the zapper instead of the power glove.

For serious. Think of the kajillions of potential human lives killed by 'hands' every year...

if you know what i mean..

SMU has a gaming society?! I wonder if Dal has one...
Also, looking at the image of that zapper, I'm leaning towards the "unjustified" removal side.

I wonder how things would have went if the picture of the zapper had a cord coming from it.

Whatever, I get to have a little related fun, since I actually had my old zapper sitting next to my bed. I keep it just in case any pesky ducks fly into my room.

The point here was probably "No Gun-Like Objects" and this is meant to simulate a gun. From this article it seems like the change did not upset anyone involved.

And that university was in Halifax, of all places (it's one of those places where the "Canadians are nice/polite" thing might come from).
As a Nova Scotian I question that particular sentiment.

Fellow Haligonian!! I love you!

Yeah it's not a private University

This does suck but it makes me happy there is an article about a University in the city that I was born, MAKES ME SO HAPPY!

You'd have to be a complete moron to think a group is promoting violence like that, especially because there's a joystick in there too and the gun is freakin' red! I mean, I know not everyone grew up with a NES and a zapper, but if I walk down the street waving my zapper gun in the air, I doubt anyone's gonna think I'm a murderer or something, right? Seriously, who would think that?

Saint Mary's (Halifax) is a Roman Catholic founded University
Oh...well, there's your problem. Religious schools are the worst for that. When I was in high school (Religious school too), my school prohibited me wearing The Nightmare Before Christmas clothes and products because "they had skulls in them". Yeah, think about that for a moment.

Also, Mana Bar? Isn't that also Yahtzee's awesome-sounding bar somewhere somewhere?

I'm going to just assume that you are joking.
I've held and used a variety of firearms, I'm Canadian, almost everyone I know owns at least one gun, or has owned or used a firearm...
If you seriously think that because we have stricter gun registration laws here, that we are a gunless society, then you should come live here for awhile.

Sure we don't have anywhere near the prolific numbers and spread of firearms available in the united states, but our wal-mart and other stores with "sporting goods" sections stock a variety of ammunition, and we have more than a few gun stores.

I for one think the issue in the OP is ridiculous, but whatever, idiots don't grow up to be smart, they just stay stupid, and some of them end up in charge of schools. Especially Catholic schools.

The pussy-fication of society continues!

Do you often see orange guns with screws in them and a trigger which is just a big black button?

Seriously. The only idiots that would confuse that for a real gun is people who have never touched an electronic device in their life.

So basically 90% of anyone above 50.

Y'know, since the article states that the image goes against pre-established University guidelines and policies, I'm going to assume that the society that was probably made to read and stay within those guidelines before forming was at fault and not the University.

People here seem to be living in a vacuum. The zapper is iconic only in video gaming culture or even some of pop culture. Most parents and especially school officials would be hard-pressed to identify it firstly as a video-game accessory and not a toy gun.

The school asked them to change it and they changed it. Everyone was happy.

The school did not overreact.
As is usually the case, people on the internet are overreacting.
Thank you for being the voice of reason here.

If this university's a private school I can sort of understand. I mean it's stupid, but there isn't much the students would be able to do about it. The Power Glove's way more offensive than the Lite Gun in any case. At least the Lite Gun fucking worked.
The power glove works if you use it for prostate exams.. <_<

Obviously joking, I just think its silly considering the orange zapper looks nothing like a real gun, hell the grey one didn't either.

I wonder what the university's rifle club would have to go through.

Can't say I've heard of a rifle club at any university. Of course it all makes sense. Liberal demagogue professors know far more than such common rabble as we what's good for us.
