I bought Far Cry 2 because I wanted to sneak up to an enemy strong hold and see just how many of them I could take out before they realized what was happening. However, to do so would take multiple tries and every time I die and I have to drive back there. If its a mission I might not have to go back that far but if I have any location to go to that is far away I'll drive there and get killed on the way. They shoot you and your vehicle breaks down so you can't just run away. Safe houses help but why can't I just restart where I left off? Just getting to friend missions has proved horribly difficult. In any other game there would be a bit of load time then I could just try again. So far this has been a complete game breaker for me. Is there any way around this problem?
Did you buy the camo suit? That helps out immensely if you're trying to be a sneaky bastard. Expensive, but I'm sure you'd find it totally worth it.

No there is not and I hate to break it you Far Cry 2 is terrible it is nearly impossible to be stealthy in it.
You're better of running in guns blazing trust me I had the game and you could not be stealthy in it at all.

its alright, the ending however is bullshit, especially if/when you try to immerse yourself into the game/story.
Really? I thought it kept with the overall theme of the game.
it just pissed me off as i played nice-ish guy throughout, so my reward is:
I HAVE to kill myself, sure, i can get not killing the jackal, but WHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO SHOT MY OWN HEAD OFF?
Really stupid.
I'd call it a 180 from the normal path of the game. You're doing things like destroying a malaria medicine plant and some area's only water supply, almost like you're trying your best to make the place insufferable. But then it goes GOTCHA! You were actually doing this all as part of a convoluted ploy to redeem yourself for your past crimes (I assume), saving a nation of people as your last act on earth. A mercenary, and only a mercenary, always and forever. Incapable of being anything but a total badass, and too much for the world to handle. It's so manly-beautiful as to inspire a single manly-tear as I snap a symbolic farewell manly-salute to the grass-covered valleys under a sunset-tinted sky. Or something -- and if it weren't for how they played that darn gotcha.

You can't be nice, you can only be bad, or bad with somebody helping you.

Also it doesn't strictly say that you do, that thing you mentioned, unless I recall incorrectly.

oh jesus...
i was able to be stealthy to an extent, some of it depends on the luck of the draw, where the enemies are and what direction they are facing
of course i would always fuck it up somehow
but if you plan it right it is very possible to be stealthy

I hated this so much.

I had so much trouble getting into farcry 2 I've never actually played it. What makes it farcry 2 when it doesn't share anything at all with the first game? confused the hell out of me.

BOLT ACTION Sniper, Grenade launcher, Dart sniper rifle, Machete.

With those, you can sneak in, eliminate a fair amount discretely, and just pwn them to bits.

AS to the difficulty?

I'm the complete opposite, it was TOO easy, I only died by falling to my death or getting hit by a car/stray rocket.

Those Damn syrettes make it too god dam easy, and it was on max difficulty!

You're playing it the wrong way.

Take it slow, approach every group of enemies with stealth, get out of your car.

It doesn't get any easier as you go through the game, much to its detriment as the respawning checkpoints make for some frustrating, repetitive gameplay.

However... the game gets a lot more fun when you unlock grenade launchers and explosives.

The actual missions are a blast and challenging in a good way. Just sucks that they only make up 20% of the game time, the remaing 80% spent driving and swearing at the TV.
%100 correct. FC2 is one of my favorite games, it has it's flaws, but I love it.

I hate that the stealth kills with the machete never work though, they always scream while they're on the floor and alert the other dudes around so there's no point. If you want to be stealthy you have to use the silenced Makarov or the Dart Rifle, which always got on my nerves.
I generally found the stealth a little buggy, I ended up falling back on my all powerful AK47 most of the time. That thing rips them to shreds.

Until you unlock the automatic grenade launcher... holy shit that weapon is fun.

Guard posts gone in one shot. Sweet.

Made the endgame way too easy though, the Heart of Darkness was a breeze.

I never beat it, I had a corrupted version for the 360 and it would always erase my files and eventually it just stopped working.

Once I found that the machete, and stealth, was mostly pointless I just went for balls-out, fuck-all destruction weapons:

Special: RPG
Primary: MGL Grenade Launcher
Secondary: Sidearm grenade launcher

Nothing can survive this deadly combination! The flamethrower works suprisingly well, unlike most games, and I often found myself using it in close combat.

You can't expect to just Run&Gun everything, this isn't Halo or F.E.A.R, things take time.

it's VERY heavily implied that either you kill yourself blowing that thing up, or you have to shoot your own goddam face off escorting the refugees across the border...lame

As far as the facts go, yes, that's what I said. As for opinion, can't agree. It's not your character after the end of the game. Really, it never was. This isn't a game about choosing your own path through the story. It is about walking the path they give you. This allows the game to achieve a certain poignancy that would be impossible in a choose-your-own-adventure. And, really, it's not necessary that all endings are rainbows and unicorns. That would detract from storytelling as a whole.

Pro tip: USE THE SAFEHOUSES!

Also, I am currently playing through the game on Infamous-difficulty. I am not finding it any more frustrating then I would any other game on the hardest difficulty, you are just playing it wrong. You have to take it slow and plan out your attacks better.
